Delicious Spicy Jjukkumi Experience in Taebaek

During a weekday lunch break, I went to eat at Meokbang Jjukkumi with my colleagues.
This place is quite famous for jjukkumi in Taebaek, and I had been curious about it for a while.
Fortunately, we all decided to visit during lunchtime.
To cut to the chase, it was definitely spicy, but oddly delicious, making it hard to put down the chopsticks.
Let's talk about the location and parking first.
Meokbang Jjukkumi is conveniently located within Taebaek city.
There is free parking available right in front of the restaurant or nearby,
making it easy to stop by during lunch hours.
Even on a weekday, there was a steady flow of customers.
I understood why it is popular among office workers and small gatherings.
The interior was generally clean.
The spacing between tables was adequate, so it was comfortable even for larger groups,
and it felt more organized than the chaotic atmosphere typical of jjukkumi places.
The staff was busy but attentive, ensuring a smooth service even during lunch hours.
Looking at the menu, the main offerings focus on jjukkumi.
They serve grilled jjukkumi (dine-in), spicy jjukkumi, seaweed rice, fried rice, and regular rice.
For additional items, there are options like beef brisket, pork belly, intestines, dumplings, ramen, udon, and vegetables.
Side dishes include tempura shrimp, gorgonzola pizza, pork cutlet, and steamed eggs.
Given that jjukkumi is quite spicy, I felt that choosing the right side dishes was essential.
We ordered three servings of spicy jjukkumi and four pieces of tempura shrimp.
First, the basic side dishes were served.
There were various vegetables and dried seaweed,
and the dried seaweed was really tasty!
When the spicy jjukkumi arrived, it was visually striking.
At first glance, I thought, "This looks spicy..."
After taking a bite, it was definitely spicy but not overly salty.
As someone who struggles with spicy food, it was a bit challenging for me, but the flavor was addictive, not unpleasant.
The jjukkumi was tender and easy to chew, and the seasoning was just right for mixing with rice.
Mixing it with the seaweed or the provided seasoning helped balance the heat, enhancing the flavor.
Fortunately, steamed eggs were served as a side dish.
These eggs played a significant role in soothing the spice.
They were soft and mildly seasoned, making them perfect for pairing with the spicy jjukkumi.
I highly recommend ordering the tempura shrimp as well.
They were crispy on the outside and moist inside, and alternating bites with the jjukkumi helped mitigate the spice.
Overall, everyone was satisfied with the shrimp.
In terms of overall taste:
✔ Not overly salty
✔ The spice level is definitely strong
✔ Good texture of jjukkumi
✔ Important to combine with side dishes
While it may be a challenge for those who can't handle spice,
it's a satisfying place for spicy food lovers.
It might be a bit intense for lunch,
but it felt perfect for relieving stress.
I recommend it for:
- Anyone looking for spicy jjukkumi in Taebaek
- Those pondering lunch options with coworkers
- People who enjoy clean yet spicy jjukkumi
- Diners who want to eat without parking worries
After our lunch, everyone agreed that it was "spicy but delicious."
Next time, I want to try the grilled jjukkumi and add some brisket or fried rice.
If you're ever in Taebaek and craving something spicy,
Meokbang Jjukkumi is definitely worth a visit.
