Day 3: Culinary Adventures in Shanghai

On the third day, we set out to eat again.
We headed to try some toasted bread dipped in soy milk with fried dough sticks, known as Dou Jiang and You Tiao.
Unfortunately, it seems they only sell it in the morning, and we couldn't get any. We ended up having some rice cakes from Shen Da Cheng instead.
Thankfully, there was no line in the morning, but when we returned from Tianzifang, the queue was quite long.
Since the line was short and easy to eat, I recommend it for breakfast!
Just the day before, I had a bad experience with rice cakes at Juga Gak, so I hesitated but decided to buy just two.
These rice cakes tasted similar to Korean ones and were delicious, filled with sweet red bean paste!
Although it wasn't a hearty breakfast, we headed to Tianzifang for some shopping!
My shopping list included hand cream and Blan Bunny products.
As soon as we arrived, there were an overwhelming number of delivery motorcycles...
It felt like they were pouring out of a large building right in front of us.
Entering Tianzifang, we found a maze of quaint shops reminiscent of the Hanok village in Ikseon-dong.
It felt like once you entered a shop, you couldn't get out!
We finally arrived at our destination, Blan Bunny, which had a beautiful store.
There was a staff member who spoke Korean, making it easy to shop. However, all the customers were Korean, so it felt like we were in a Korean bubble.
While my friend was looking for a magnet, some Koreans came out and told us where to find cheaper options, which was quite funny!
Suddenly, the shop owner came out a bit annoyed and started giving us discounts...
At Tianzifang, make sure to haggle in places that don't have fixed prices!
Next, we quickly moved on to enjoy Peking Duck at Si Ji Min Fu!
This was the dish I had been looking forward to the most since coming to Shanghai!
We went to Si Ji Min Fu, but since we couldn't make a reservation, we just showed up.
When we arrived, it seemed like there was no wait, but it turned out there were 60 teams ahead of us, and we had to wait three hours!
Thanks to our friend, we could leave the line because we received real-time notifications!
After that, we passed by Xin Tian Di and headed to Jellycat, which was a must-visit for me.
It was right between Xin Tian Di and the Provisional Government, making it a convenient stop.
I found the cutest teddy bear bag, but it was too big for my niece, so I had to pass.
Next, we visited the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, which I recommend for anyone visiting.
Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside, but it was surprisingly small, which was a bit disappointing.
After a three-hour wait, it was finally our turn!
The menu is like an order form here; you just write your order on a piece of paper.
The menu was beautifully designed, almost like a food magazine.
While waiting for our food, reading the menu was enjoyable.
They also have a live demonstration of how they carve the Peking Duck right in front of you.
Make sure to order the spicy tofu!
It was incredibly spicy, and I could feel the heat in my lips.
We ordered enough wraps for everyone.
The staff showed us how to eat the wraps properly, starting with the skin dipped in sugar!
We wrapped the meat in the pancakes, but I forgot to take a photo of the duck leg.
As soon as I took a bite, I was overwhelmed by the oiliness.
It was like chewing on a sponge soaked in oil; I couldn't fully appreciate the flavor.
Maybe I had too high expectations for the Peking Duck.
Though it was good, it wasn't worth traveling all the way to China for it.
After eating more than half, they finally told us we only needed half a wrap!
We had already eaten enough, but we still wanted to try egg tarts at Lillian Bakery.
We were continuously eating!
The egg tarts were good, but not so amazing that I would crave them.
After so much food, I needed a break.
We stopped at Luckin Coffee for some matcha to recharge.
If you're looking for coffee in the department store, head to the basement!
However, the basement Luckin Coffee was so cramped with no seating that we went to the fourth floor, which was just as crowded.
Having eaten so much, I decided to cut the recap short.
