Damyang Lake: A Serene Lakeside Camping and Car Camping Spot in Jeollanam-do
Hello! I'm Baeko Travel, an outdoor and travel enthusiast. After finishing my schedule in Jeollanam-do, I wanted to relax before heading back to Seoul. I discovered a spot in Damyang where you can enjoy lakeside camping at Damyang Lake, and I recently visited it.
► Quiet Moments at Damyang Lake: A Free Camping Experience
Damyang Lake is about a 10-minute drive from Damyang-eup, making it easily accessible. People who know about this place visit it frequently. The famous Metasequoia Road and Juknokwon (Bamboo Garden) are also nearby, making it a great addition to your travel itinerary. More than any tourist destination, however, this place offers tranquility. When you find a spot at the edge of the lake, under the shade of the trees, and unfold your chair, the sound of the wind and the gentle waves simply soothe your mind.
This is a free camping spot, not an official campsite, so you can stay freely without reservations or usage fees. However, basic camping etiquette is essential! There were traces of campfires here, and since it's near the mountains, I hope people avoid making campfires.
► Damyang Lake: Perfect for Car Camping
Since I was just passing by before heading to Seoul this time, I only set up a table and chairs to enjoy a picnic with a view of Damyang Lake. But it's also a great place for car camping. There were two other groups car camping next to us. I'll have to come back for car camping next time! There are plenty of flat areas accessible by car around the large lake, making it easy to find a spot, and it's under the shade of trees, which I highly recommend.
► A Quiet Camping Haven Along the Lakeside
I grabbed some takeaway ribs from a famous Damyang rib restaurant for lunch and dinner and started preparing to eat while watching the currently popular Netflix drama, 'Everything Will Come True'. It's not far from Damyang city, so it's great to bring takeout food and have a picnic.
But these ribs are so delicious, you absolutely have to try them if you visit Damyang. Even though they were a bit cold because I took them away, they were still amazing. Eating warm ribs fresh from the restaurant with the beautiful scenery of Damyang Lake made me want to include this place as a top recommendation for car camping in Jeollanam-do. The lakeside scenery, the flat terrain, and the peaceful atmosphere make it a perfect free camping spot for those who prefer tranquility over crowded places.
There's also a waterskiing area (빠지) near Damyang Lake, so it's fun to watch people waterskiing. It was entertaining to watch people doing jumps at a professional level and others constantly falling into the water.
