A Visit to the 2026 Jeonju Garden Industry Expo

The sun in May meets the shimmering surface of Deokjin Pond, creating a dazzling spectacle of spring. Deokjin Park, a popular spot for citizens' spring walks and outings, has transformed into a magnificent 'garden.'
I visited the site of the 2026 6th Jeonju Garden Industry Expo at Deokjin Park, a vast garden completed by countless hands. This expo, held at both Jeonju World Cup Plaza and Deokjin Park, showcases a harmonious blend of serene Korean beauty and sophisticated garden art within an open natural setting.
2026 6th Jeonju Garden Industry Expo
One Garden Created by Citizens
Duration: May 8 (Fri) - May 12 (Tue) for 5 days
Location: Jeonju World Cup Plaza, Deokjin Park
Main Activities: Garden Industry Exhibition, Garden Displays, Garden Cultural Programs, etc.
Organizers: Jeonju City, Jeonju Garden Industry Expo Organizing Committee
As you pass through the entrance of Deokjin Park, known as Yeonji Gate, you are greeted by a refreshing atmosphere unlike any other. The open space reveals why Deokjin Park has long been cherished by citizens for their walks and daily lives. During the expo, visitors can find information about the event starting from the garden at the main entrance.
Colorful pots and plants scattered throughout the park come alive under the bright blue sky, creating a joyful atmosphere reminiscent of a European garden. Let's dive into the garden expo!
This expo is not just a visual experience; it offers various sensory activities to truly engage with the gardens. A map at the entrance helps guide visitors to desired gardens or programs, but wandering around the park is equally rewarding.
In the Tea Forest at Deokjin Park's Pungwoljeong, you can create your own fragrance sachet infused with the essence of the garden (participation fee: 1,000 won). Enjoy a peaceful moment savoring warm tea while watching a traditional tea ceremony at Yeonhwa Library (Yeonhwaru) and Chuihyangjeong (participation fee: 1,000 won each). Yeonhwaru, next to the library, is spacious and air-conditioned, perfect for those seeking respite from the heat.
As you sip tea served by a teacher in a beautiful hanbok, the simple yet elegant curves of the tea ceremony allow for relaxed conversations, washing away accumulated fatigue and providing a sense of tranquility in nature.
Visitors can also join a free garden tour guided by a garden interpreter at the 'Garden Interpreter's House' (operating every hour starting from 10 AM). While solo walks are lovely, exploring the park with an expert can deepen your appreciation of its beauty. It’s a perfect activity for families or couples to enjoy spring outings while learning about the gardens.
Among the many beautiful gardens, I will highlight two that particularly touched my heart.
[Korea Garden Show] Barim: The Poetics of the Suspension Curve (Artist: Kang Hyun-joo)
This space reinterprets the essence of time in Jeonju Hanok through suspension curves. The wooden partition walls allow the breeze to flow through, blending seamlessly with nature.
Walking up the neat stone steps, I felt a calmness akin to strolling through a well-maintained garden of an old house. The white, round sculptures scattered throughout the garden resembled moons floating on a pond, adding to the visual delight.
[Corporate Accompaniment Garden] Daejein Healing Garden: Reflection (Daejein Hospital)
This garden embodies 'nature's prescription' for physical and mental recovery. Encountering a familiar Jeonju hospital in this garden setting felt refreshingly new.
Walking through the green square frame, the sounds and breezes wash away daily stress. The wind chimes hanging from the trees create a soothing sound that calms the mind, reminiscent of ripples spreading across water.
The greatest charm of hosting a garden expo in such a large park lies in the simplicity of walking. Just strolling around the expo allows you to fully appreciate the beauty of Deokjin Park. The lush green waves on the lake are gracefully intertwined with the branches of the willow trees, while white petals cascade beautifully from the waterfall on one side of the park.
This picturesque scene evokes a sense of paradise, a grand gift from nature. The Jeonju Garden Industry Expo beautifully illustrates how gardens are not just objects of admiration but are intimately intertwined with our daily lives.
Under the May sunshine, taking a moment to breathe and enjoy true recovery with loved ones in this beautiful garden created by Jeonju sounds like a perfect plan.
