A Unique Library Tour Led by Residents of Gyeonggi Province

When we think of a library, we often picture a quiet place for reading books or finding necessary materials. However, modern libraries are evolving beyond just books and are becoming complex cultural spaces where people, technology, and culture intersect. The Gyeonggi Provincial Library, located next to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office in Suwon, is one such space showcasing this transformation. In September, a special tour program will be held that allows residents to explore the library in a unique way, and we hope more citizens of Gyeonggi Province will participate.
A Library Story Told by Residents, Not Librarians
The program, titled 'A Special Tour of Gyeonggi Provincial Library Guided by Residents,' will run from September 1 to 17. What stands out about this event is that it will be guided by residents of Gyeonggi Province rather than library staff. Thirty-one resident guides who completed the 'Library School' in July will introduce participants to the library's spaces, key facilities, and stories related to books and the library. This program offers a different perspective on the library, as residents plan the content and share the value and experiences of the library with their fellow citizens.

The general tours allow one team of up to 10 people per session, making it ideal for families or small groups. The AI program is limited to four participants per session, allowing for a more focused experience. Please note that only daycare centers and kindergartens can apply for the storytime sessions.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Library adds functions that connect traditional roles of reading and information gathering with AI, climate, and culture. This program's charm lies in discovering the meanings behind each space through the explanations of resident guides. The application period for the Gyeonggi Provincial Library tour program is from August 20 to 31. Interested participants can select their desired program and date on the library's website, but sessions may close early once they reach capacity. As of August 27, all sessions for general tours on September 1 and 3, as well as all AI program sessions, are already full.
