A Perfect Getaway with Kids: Ikseong Songcheon Valley
Ikseong Songcheon Valley is a precious retreat for the citizens of Iksan and a great spot for families with children.
Although the heat of summer lingers even after the beginning of autumn, today I want to introduce you to Songcheon Valley, a hidden gem in Iksan where you can relax in the cool embrace of nature.
To reach Songcheon Valley, I first visited the Ungpo Culture and Sports Center. The center has a parking area at the entrance, making it convenient for both citizens and travelers to access the facilities.
The Ungpo Culture and Sports Center offers a variety of indoor and outdoor sports and cultural activities. For a small rental fee, you can use the gymnasium and seminar rooms, and there are shower facilities available for a refreshing clean-up after your workout.
As you follow the walking path beside the Ungpo Culture and Sports Center, you will soon arrive at your destination, Songcheon Valley. The route is well-marked with signs, making it easy to find even for first-time visitors.
After a short walk along the valley, you will find a perfect water play area for young children. It is just a five-minute walk from the parking lot, and the path is flat, allowing for easy movement with your belongings.
In the water play area, there are resting spots and shade structures on both sides of the valley. It is a great place to relax under the shade while listening to the sound of flowing water, and you can keep an eye on the kids playing nearby.
The water depth varies, but it is generally below knee level for children, making it safe for them to play while also providing a refreshing spot for adults to dip their feet.
The valley floor is made of dirt and gravel, providing a safe environment for children to enjoy their time.
One of the important aspects of a water play area is the availability of facilities. Near the valley, there are clean restrooms and foot washing stations for rinsing off hands and feet, ensuring a pleasant experience.
In front of the restroom, there is a plaza where traditional games like 'sabangchigi' (a Korean game) and 'jegichagi' (a kicking game) are set up, so even if you don't want to play in the water, kids can enjoy their time in the forest.
There is also a swing playground for children, making it a great outing, whether or not you visit the valley.
We enjoyed the refreshing valley water and took a healing walk along the trails filled with phytoncides. Thanks to the coolness of nature, we ended our outing on a high note.
