Ganghwa Jeondeungsa Temple offers a refreshing escape from the bustling city, perfect for those seeking a serene environment. With over 1,600 years of history, this tranquil temple is renowned for its picturesque scenery and the lush backdrop of the Jeongjok Mountain Fortress, making it an ideal summer retreat.

The unique terrain of the fortress naturally blocks external noise, providing a peaceful atmosphere as soon as you enter the grounds. Located just an hour's drive from the metropolitan area, it is a popular destination for weekend trips and family outings.

Within the walls of the fortress, which is said to have been built by the three sons of Dangun, Jeondeungsa Temple is nestled comfortably. Established during the Goguryeo era, it received patronage from the Goryeo royal family and later became the site for storing royal genealogies and records during the Joseon dynasty, further enriching its historical significance.

As you explore the temple grounds, you can admire the Daeungjeon, a prime example of mid-Joseon wooden architecture, along with other structures such as the Yaksa-jeon and Yunjangdae. There is even a victory monument dedicated to General Yang Heon-soo, commemorating the victories during the Byeongin invasion, making it an educational experience for families.

After touring the temple, it's recommended to walk along the 2km trail that follows the outer walls. This gentle path, comprised of dirt trails and wooden decks, is accessible for beginners and families alike.

The shaded tree canopy provides a natural shield against the summer sun, and upon reaching the summit, you will be greeted by a refreshing sea breeze and stunning views of the Choji Bridge. A leisurely exploration of the temple grounds takes about an hour, while combining it with the trail offers a fulfilling two-hour healing experience.

Entry to Jeondeungsa Temple is free, alleviating any financial burden for visitors. The temple is open from 9 AM to 5:30 PM, and parking fees are 3,000 KRW for small cars and 8,000 KRW for larger vehicles.

Accessibility is well-considered with ramps and dedicated facilities for those with mobility challenges. For public transport users, taking bus 60 or 70 from Ganghwa Bus Terminal will get you to Jeondeungsa stop, just a 10-minute walk from the temple.
