A moment that needs a pause!

We took the Donghae Line to visit Namchang Onggi Market!

During the last Lunar New Year holiday, I rode the Donghae Line with my husband to visit Namchang Onggi Market, and I remember sharing that experience on this blog.

Now, as my husband is on his retirement leave after 37 years of work, we decided to enjoy a leisurely weekday trip back to Namchang Onggi Market.

Instead of his usual work attire, he wore a comfortable shirt, and to celebrate his new beginning, we brought along 'Haetmi,' the mascot of Uljin.

We took a bus from the Hyundae Marine Intersection near our home in Ulsan and arrived at Taehwa River Station in about 10 minutes.

This trip was planned to take the Donghae Line to Namchang Station, explore the market, and return home by city bus.

Taehwa River Station, located at 654 Sangdang-ro, Nam-gu, Ulsan, is the starting and ending point of the Donghae Line and serves as a hub for Ulsan's transportation.

Since the opening of the Donghae Line, it has become a vibrant space where numerous buses stop and depart, welcoming visitors and residents alike.

To access the Donghae Line, you can take an elevator from the first floor directly to the third floor, or you can use the stairs or escalator to enter the waiting room on the second floor before heading up to the third floor.

If you have time, you can relax in the spacious and comfortable waiting room on the second floor, which includes a tourist information center, convenience store, café, and food stalls.

After checking the train schedule, we headed up to the third floor. The train ride from Taehwa River Station to Bujeon Station takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, with four stops before reaching Namchang Station.

Although using a smartphone for tickets is convenient, I enjoyed the experience of using a paper ticket.

The train from Taehwa River Station to Namchang Station took us through scenic rural landscapes, arriving in just 20 minutes.

Namchang Station will see improved accessibility starting December 30, 2025, when KTX trains will begin stopping there.

The station's waiting area was well-maintained and relatively quiet on a weekday, but it becomes lively on weekends when the market is bustling with activity.

Just a five-minute walk from the station is the Namchang Onggi Market, which has been a center of transportation and administration since the Joseon Dynasty.

The market is open on the 3rd, 8th, 13th, 18th, 23rd, and 28th of each month, and it becomes a vibrant space for various cultural events and performances on weekends.

As the summer season approaches, the market is filled with fresh produce and local delicacies, and the familiar sounds of vendors calling out their goods can be heard.

After exploring the market, we felt rejuvenated, and I believe this day will remain a cherished memory as my husband prepares for his new life after retirement.

As we headed home, we chose to take the bus, enjoying the changing scenery along the way. With the rainy season approaching, I hope you too can find joy in a visit to the market with loved ones.
