The '11th Jeonggwan Ecological Stream Learning Culture Festival' was held from October 17th to 19th at the Jugwangcheon Provincial Garden area (Central Park, Witgol Park, Gumokjeong Park) in Jeonggwan-eup.
Marking its 11th anniversary, the 'Jeonggwan Ecological Stream Learning Culture Festival' has been recognized for its excellent festival content, being consecutively selected as the 'Best Festival Designated by Busan City in 2024' and a 'Promising Festival in 2025' in the Busan Metropolitan City's district and county festival evaluations.
This year's festival was even more abundant and diverse with programs, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Gijang-gun's restoration, the 10th anniversary of Jeonggwan-eup's promotion, and the registration of Jugwangcheon as a provincial garden. Although it was a bit disappointing that it rained on and off throughout the event, it was great to see people of all ages enjoying the various festivities.
During the festival, various events were held, including Jugwangcheon ecological experiences, science and English experience events, literary events such as a writing contest, the Jugwangcheon Provincial Garden Children's Song Festival, robot competitions, youth gatherings (Moonlit Night), book concerts, street parades, a citizen family walking competition, lifelong learning & resident autonomy expo, and a sharing flea market.
In addition, various experience booths were set up, allowing everyone from infants to the elderly to participate.
Prior to the festival, the 'Children's Ecological Stream Experience Event' was held from October 13th. This event allowed children to directly experience the beauty and ecological sites of Jugwangcheon, which is registered as an urban garden in Busan.
On the 13th, about 100 children enjoyed various ecological experience activities in nature with forest commentators.
Over 200 experience booths were operated along Jugwangcheon Stream and in Central Park. People from toddlers to senior citizens participated in various experiences.
A space for nature, education, and culture unfolded throughout Jugwangcheon, with hobby activities such as coffee art, traditional game experiences, and a 'On-site University Entrance Consulting Booth' with Jongro Academy.
Many people flocked to the senior citizen-only rest area baduk (Korean chess) class at the Jeonggwan Senior Welfare Center, tarot and fortune telling, resource circulation by senior volunteer corps, and balloon art experiences.
Both the elderly and children tried their hand at rice cake pounding. The rice cakes made in this way were coated with savory soybean flour and distributed to residents who came to the festival. I received one too. I kept reaching for the savory and chewy Injeolmi (Korean rice cake).
The drawing contest and writing contest, which were scheduled to be held in Gumokjeong Park, were held indoors due to rain. This year, the robot competition (Green Robot Challenge) was held for the first time at the Jeonggwan Gateball field.
The importance of health cannot be overemphasized. The Gijang-gun Public Health Center's integrated health promotion project operated mobile health experience booths, Ilsin Christian Hospital offered 3-minute health checkups, Taeheungdang Korean Medicine Clinic provided 8-constitution self-diagnosis for fun, and other booths related to health, such as a national cancer screening mobile counseling center and hygiene and nutrition experiences, were also available.
Many people gathered for calligraphy classes where they could write their family motto and calligraphy experiences.
The classic busking performance also caught the attention of passersby. Smiles bloomed on the faces of those receiving balloons from the stilt walkers. It's a joyful festival.
