Starting a new week with a mix of exhaustion and pride! From dragging myself out for sushi to clear my head while studying, to facing the daunting challenge of a 10km marathon I signed up for months ago, it has been a whirlwind.
This post covers my experience joining a random running group through KakaoTalk, the reality of running a race at a 9-minute pace, and a very practical survival guide for wisdom tooth extraction—including the dreaded "food stuck in the hole" emergency. Read on for my reviews of local spots like Bupyeong Park and a great dental clinic in Incheon.
Conquering the 10km Marathon with the Kuromi Crew
I signed up for a 10km marathon back in July and, in true procrastinator fashion, hadn't run once until a last-minute 5km dawn run just days before the race. To stay motivated, I joined a "Cutie Run" Kakao open chat room to find running partners.
Meeting strangers for the first time on race day was nerve-wracking, but our group "landmark" was an experienced marathoner dressed as Kuromi! Despite my slow pace in the 9-minute range, I actually finished all 10km. The sense of pride was immense, and the post-race meal featuring a massive egg roll made the physical struggle totally worth it.
Healing Moments at Bupyeong Park
After the chaos of the race, Bupyeong Park (부평공원) became my go-to spot for relaxation. It’s perfect for people-watching (kids catching guppies!) and, most importantly, "free viewing" of all the cute dogs being walked. It's a great place to clear your mind if you're feeling burnt out from studying.Medical Support Gigs at COEX and the National Museum
I spent some time doing medical support work at COEX and the National Museum of Korea. While COEX was a bit of a letdown—specifically, avoid the Chogye Kal-guksu place there—the gig at the National Museum was much more enjoyable thanks to the cool autumn breeze and a fun costume contest.
The wait times for these events can be long, but it’s a great chance to see interesting people (like famous Reels creators) and catch up on some rest in the car. It’s definitely a test of patience, but the nice weather made it "easy peasy lemon squeezy."
Wisdom Tooth Extraction: The Hard Truth
I finally bit the bullet and got my wisdom tooth extracted at Incheon E-Teeth Wisdom Tooth Clinic (인천 이편한치과). The extraction itself didn't hurt due to the anesthesia, but the sheer force they used was terrifying! The real battle began once the anesthesia wore off.The "Rice in the Hole" Crisis and Syringe Solution
Five days post-extraction, I hit a snag: a grain of rice got stuck in the extraction hole. Panic set in during my locker room break! I reached out to the clinic and even asked ChatGPT for advice while waiting.
The clinic reassured me that food getting stuck is normal and unlikely to cause an immediate infection. The real game-changer was buying a medical syringe to spray water into the hole. It works amazingly well compared to toothpicks, which only cause bleeding. If you're getting your wisdom teeth out, buy a syringe immediately!
A Happy Chuseok and Final Lessons
Today's lesson: get your wisdom teeth removed when you're young to heal faster! Despite the dental drama and the stock market only giving me a return of 3,427 won, I'm feeling better and ready to enjoy the holidays. Happy Chuseok everyone!
