A Day of Laughter, Coffee, and Gundam: Conquering COEX!
513 Yeongdong-daero, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, COEX 1st floor
테라로사 코엑스점

Navigating the vast maze of COEX Mall during a holiday can be a daunting task, but it is the perfect destination for a full day of "recharging." My journey began at Terra Rosa COEX (테라로사 코엑스점), where a premium caffeine fix provided the necessary energy to explore everything from the latest blockbuster movies to specialized hobby shops.
This guide captures a fulfilling day spent at COEX, featuring a hilarious cinematic experience at Megabox and a deep dive into the otaku mecca, Gundam Base. Whether you are a coffee lover, a movie buff, or a figure collector, these tips will help you navigate the mall's highlights without getting lost in the crowd.
Starting the Day with a Premium Drip Coffee at Terra Rosa
Located on the first floor of COEX, Terra Rosa is an essential stop for coffee enthusiasts. I fueled up with their signature iced drip coffee of the day, which offered a refreshing and complex flavor profile. It is a great place to stock up on high-quality coffee beans and drip bags for home brewing while enjoying the modern, industrial-chic atmosphere.
The cafe serves as a perfect landmark for meeting friends before heading deeper into the mall. After a quick "recharge," I made my way toward the lower levels, passing by various tempting restaurants that line the path to the entertainment zone.
Navigating the Path from Bongeunsa Station to Megabox
Megabox COEX is located at B1 level and is relatively close to Bongeunsa Station. If you are coming for a movie, give yourself at least 15 minutes to walk from the main entrance, as the sheer size of the mall and the enticing shop windows can easily distract you from your schedule.
Cinema Experience: A Modern Twist on Classic Gangster Comedy
I caught the movie Boss at Megabox's premium recliner theater. The film is a hilarious 2025 reimagining of the classic gangster comedy genre, reminiscent of My Boss, My Hero. The quirky premise of gangsters trying to avoid promotion to "Boss" provided a lighthearted B-movie sensibility that was perfect for a holiday laugh.
The star-studded cast, including Jo Woo-jin, Jung Kyung-ho, and Lee Kyu-hyung, delivered fantastic comedic performances. Lee Kyu-hyung’s "madness" in the latter half of the film was a particular highlight that kept the audience laughing. Personally, I’d give it a B+ for being the ultimate popcorn flick.
The Perfect Popcorn Set and Recliner Comfort
Watching a movie in a recliner theater makes the experience twice as enjoyable. Even though I arrived just minutes before the start, the quick service at the snack bar allowed me to grab a popcorn set and settle in for two hours of brain-off, pure entertainment.
Gundam Base Shopping: The Mecca for Figure Collectors
After the movie, I finally tracked down Gundam Base. Located further inside the mall from Megabox, this shop is a paradise for hobbyists. The shelves are packed with Gunpla kits and high-quality figures from popular series like Chainsaw Man, Naruto, and Digimon Adventure.
My haul included some iconic figures, though the luck of the draw meant I have to return soon to complete my collection. Walking out with a shopping bag full of "geek gear" was the perfect conclusion to a day of exploration and shopping.
Tips for Finding Gundam Base Without Getting Lost
To find Gundam Base easily, follow the signs for the Aquarium or Megabox first. Once you reach the cinema area, continue walking past the main theaters toward the specialized hobby zone. It is tucked away but well worth the search for any fan of Japanese animation and model building.
