Top-Class Breakfast Near Jeju City Hall and Airport

During my recent trip to Jeju, I planned to enjoy some quality meals. While searching for popular restaurants near Jeju City Hall, I came across a place called Gungseochae. I decided to go there as I believed it would offer a satisfying dining experience for my parents, who were traveling with me.
Gungseochae Jeju Tapdong Branch
Location: 6, Tapdong-ro 11-gil, Jeju City, 2nd Floor
Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Menu: Grilled Hairtail Set for 4 - 159,000 KRW
Since it's close to the airport, it's a great place to stop on the day of arrival or on the first day. The ocean is also nearby, providing a lovely ocean view.
The parking lot is spacious on the first floor. We were renting a car, so we were initially concerned about parking, but the ample space made it hassle-free.
The tables were arranged around windows, and on a nice day, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea while dining.
The restaurant offers set menus, so you don’t have to worry about making choices. From grilled hairtail to octopus stew and abalone with boiled pork, there are various dishes to enjoy.
After ordering, I noticed they had several high chairs available, which is great for families traveling with children. It seems to be a popular spot for family trips.
There was also a self-service bar with side dishes that were well-maintained. I appreciated their attention to hygiene and the fact that the food was consistently replenished.
When the food arrived, we were presented with a generous spread, which was delightful. My parents' eyes widened with each dish that came out.
While the variety of side dishes wasn't extensive due to the large main dishes, all of them were delicious, and I found myself reaching for them even while enjoying other foods.
Especially, I loved the kimchi. They mentioned it was homemade, and it had a refreshing taste with an incredible umami flavor, making me feel great to have such tasty kimchi after a long time.
1. Moist Grilled Hairtail
The grilled hairtail was cooked whole, ensuring the meat remained juicy. I was excited to enjoy a plump hairtail, and the staff skillfully prepared it for us, making it easy to eat.
The flavor was rich, savory, and slightly salty, making it evident that this place is a must-visit for grilled hairtail.
2. Luxurious Hairtail Rice Pot
You can enjoy hairtail not just grilled or stewed but also in a rice pot. I love rice pots and often seek them out, but this was my first time seeing hairtail in one.
The rice was mixed with the tender meat of the hairtail, making it unnecessary to have any other side dishes.
3. Juicy Boiled Pork
Gungseochae doesn’t only serve hairtail; they also offer boiled pork. The pork was tender and perfectly cooked, with no unpleasant odor, just the delightful taste of the meat.
It was delicious on its own or wrapped with kimchi.
4. Fresh Abalone Sashimi
They served two types of abalone, starting with sashimi. Each person gets one, so there’s no fighting over it. The fresh abalone was cleaned and sliced perfectly, delivering a taste that felt like the ocean in my mouth.
For those who dislike raw dishes, they also offer butter-grilled abalone, which was cooked just right.
5. Hairtail Stew with Octopus
The hairtail stew was already appealing, but it also included whole octopus, which added an amazing aroma while it was simmering.
The texture of the octopus complemented the soft hairtail, making the dish even more flavorful.
The stew was easy to eat, allowing us to fully appreciate the seasoning. Gungseochae is a perfect spot for family trips, satisfying even picky eaters.
I definitely plan to visit Gungseochae again on my next trip to Jeju.
