Today, I'm introducing Hwathongsam in Songdo, a large Korean BBQ restaurant that's perfect for company dinners. The staff, including the owner, not only do the initial grilling for you, but they also cook everything from start to finish, making each visit so convenient.

They offer black pork (Heukdwaeji) as well as Samgyeopsal (pork belly), and I highly recommend eating it with Deodeok (Codonopsis lanceolata) as it's a very attractive combination that keeps me coming back.

Hwathongsam Songdo Branch

Address: #135, Building 601, Hyundai Hillstate, 100 Convensia-daero, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon

Hours: 12:00 - 24:30 (Last order at 21:30)

When you arrive at the address, you'll find a very large space. During the day, they open the folding doors wide, creating a pleasant atmosphere. The sign prominently advertises their 'Hot Pot Samgyeopsal' (Hwadeok Tongsamgyeop), and all the meats are pre-grilled, which is a big advantage because it locks in the juicy flavor.

The diverse menu is sure to catch the eye of passersby, and with soju (Korean distilled spirit) on sale for ₩1,900, it's a haven for those looking to enjoy pork and soju.

Parking is also important when visiting with a group. You can use the apartment complex's underground parking, with approximately 3 hours of parking support provided. The separate IN and OUT lanes make using the parking garage easy.

Besides pork, they also offer beef options like prime rib and short rib. Non-alcoholic beverages are available, allowing everyone to enjoy the social atmosphere together.

The restaurant is affordable and the staff is friendly, which is why I visit often. Of course, the delicious taste is a major draw.

They only sell domestic fresh meat, preserving the juices, and even when cooked thoroughly, the texture remains moist and tender.

If you're visiting with a group, making a reservation at this Songdo BBQ spot will ensure you have a table and can start your meal quickly. Since there's an initial grilling process, it's good to order your desired menu in advance. The combination of Samgyeopsal and Deodeok is unforgettable, so that's always how I start my meal.

They've been in business for a long time, and their focus on taste is evident. You can see photos of several celebrities who have visited.

The basic table setting is neat and tidy. They provide basic side dishes and fresh vegetables for wrapping, and you can grill on a wide stone plate. They also offer rice cakes, potatoes, onions, and a mantis shrimp soybean paste stew (Ttaksaeu Doenjang jjigae).

For sauces, they even provide curry powder, which pairs surprisingly well with the pork.

While the meat is being pre-grilled, the staff comes to set everything up, and the Deodeok is particularly impressive. You can order set menus or individual items, and if you need more while eating, you can order additional servings as a snack. The combination of Deodeok, Samgyeopsal, and soju is a great value that's hard to beat.

The stone plate has high thermal conductivity and gives a great feel when grilling the meat. Because the meat is pre-grilled in a wood-fired oven, excess oil has already been removed. Grilling it on the stone plate further seals in the juices, creating a crispy outside and juicy inside.

Deodeok is delicious on its own, but grilling it once on the stone plate makes it taste like it's from a specialty restaurant. That's probably why every table has Deodeok on it. It's good for your health and perfect as a snack with drinks.

The bean sprout salad and chives salad taste even better when placed on the grill with a little pork fat. Once they've wilted slightly, they're ready to be enjoyed with the perfectly cooked Samgyeopsal.

Everyone adds them according to their preference, but I personally like to eat them together when wrapping the meat in lettuce at this Songdo BBQ restaurant.

Even if you order right away, the food doesn't take too long to come out, but since we visited as a group, we ordered in advance. Thanks to that, we were able to enjoy our meal at the same time.

The Samgyeopsal is sliced thick, about the thickness of a finger. Since it's already been pre-grilled, it doesn't take too long to cook afterwards. Because it's already heated from the pre-grilling, you just need to grill it until it's golden brown on both sides to complete the Songdo BBQ specialty: Deodeok Samgyeopsal.

The clear layers of fat in the pork show that they care about quality. In the center of the grill, there's a bit of pork fat, and they serve a fried egg as a complimentary service, which is also delicious.

It also goes well if you save it and add it to fried rice later. I ate mine right away while it was still warm and runny.

The meat didn't take long to cook after it was brought to the table, and the savory smell filled the restaurant. Because the combination is so good, people who visit this Songdo BBQ restaurant once tend to keep coming back.

When the meat is golden brown like this, they tell you it's ready to eat, so I just dip it in salt. The even layers of fat give it a great texture, and the moderate smoky flavor without any unpleasant smell was very satisfying.

Since the Deodeok is placed on the side, it doesn't burn and the seasoning caramelizes nicely. Once you're somewhat full, you can focus on eating the Deodeok without getting tired of it, and you'll keep reaching for your chopsticks.

The spicy cold noodles (Bibim-naengmyeon) are unique because they use green noodles, which I think might be mulberry leaf noodles. They also add a slightly icy broth, so it's moist and easy to mix.

It goes very well with the remaining meat. Thanks to the moderately tangy and refreshing broth, my mouth felt clean.

Although it's a BBQ restaurant, you can also enjoy Jeju mantis shrimp sashimi (Ttaksaeu-hoe), a delicacy, directly at the restaurant. It was incredibly fresh, as if it had just been prepared, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of eating it without any fishy smell, just like at a specialty restaurant.

That's probably why everyone enjoys ordering whatever they want when we have company dinners here. Every time I come, I feel like it was a good decision to visit.
