Finding a great samgyeopsal spot in Yongridang-gil was a result of my regular searches for meat restaurants near SinYongsan Station.

With my workplace nearby, I often have dinner plans after work, and I prefer enjoying grilled meat with friends rather than dining alone. A friend recently recommended a place called "Kim Sookseong," claiming it was the hottest spot in town.

This restaurant had already gained a reputation as a must-visit for samgyeopsal enthusiasts. They operate a patio and have a system where all the meat is grilled by the staff. As someone who isn't great at grilling, I found this particularly appealing. Given its location near SinYongsan Station, it attracts many office workers, and the chic atmosphere of Yongridang-gil adds to its allure, leading to wait times even on weekdays.

On my visit, I ordered a generous Kim Sookseong Special that included pork neck, pork jowl, and aged meat, along with sides like grilled mentaiko cheese, minari jeon, and self-cooked cheese fried rice.

When you think of samgyeopsal in Yongridang-gil, aged meat typically comes to mind, and the fact that they serve meat aged for at least 20 days adds to their credibility. The prices were reasonable compared to the quality, and I left feeling completely satisfied with the atmosphere and service.

1. Retro Vibes Near SinYongsan Station

Kim Sookseong SinYongsan Branch is less than a five-minute walk from Exit 1 of SinYongsan Station. While many samgyeopsal places I found online have sleek and trendy interiors, this one stood out with its retro and nostalgic decor.

Despite its vintage feel, the atmosphere is well-organized, making it comfortable for anyone to enjoy a meal. They have an outdoor patio that opens up on nice days, perfect for relaxing drinks in the spring and fall evenings. Given the office worker traffic around SinYongsan Station, it's also a great spot for company gatherings, while still feeling intimate enough for quiet dinners with friends.

2. Staff Grills the Meat for You

One of my favorite aspects was that the staff grills the meat for you. Whether you're dining alone or with others, it can be hard to focus on grilling, but here, staff carefully grill the meat to perfection based on the type.

We ordered the Kim Sookseong Special set, and I was impressed by the thick slices of pork neck. They grilled all the meats, flipping them at the right moments to ensure even cooking. The cross-aging process of dry and wet aging was evident, enhancing the meat's natural flavors.

3. Aged Meat, Mukunji, and Minari: A Perfect Combination

The aged meat is said to be cross-aged for at least 20 days, providing a different texture and aroma compared to regular samgyeopsal. It was juicy and clean without any off-flavors. The combination of domestic mukunji and minari offered a delightful contrast, with the mukunji's rich acidity and the fresh aroma of minari complementing the meat perfectly.

Particularly, placing minari on the pork jowl created an explosion of flavor in my mouth! The fact that these combinations are included as standard offerings is a significant advantage.

4. Exceptional Side Dishes

Kim Sookseong also excels in its side dishes. The grilled mentaiko cheese had a rich and creamy texture, with the savory mentaiko enhancing its flavor, while the cheese melted beautifully on top. The minari jeon was fragrant and had a great texture, making it a perfect pairing with the meat.

The self-cooked cheese fried rice was both fun to make and a perfect way to finish off the meal. The beef brisket soybean stew had a rich broth and the savory flavor of the brisket.

5. Perfect Beverage Selection

The drink menu included a variety of options beyond the usual soju and beer, featuring unique chuhais and bokbunja. I chose the strawberry peach highball, which was sweet and refreshing, perfectly cleansing the palate after the rich meat.

In conclusion, my visit to Kim Sookseong SinYongsan Branch confirmed its reputation as a top samgyeopsal spot in Yongridang-gil. The staff's attentive grilling and the high-quality meat made for an enjoyable dining experience, and the harmonious pairing of the side dishes created a well-rounded meal. I highly recommend experiencing the delightful combination of mukunji and minari. If you're looking for great flavor, atmosphere, and the comfort of having your meat grilled for you, you won't regret visiting this place!
