Delicious Jeju Galchi Jorim at Nammaene Wanggalchi in Seogwipo

When traveling to Jeju, one dish that everyone must try is galchi (hairtail fish). However, with so many galchi specialty restaurants, it can be hard to choose the best place for Jeju galchi jorim (braised galchi).
After extensive searching and getting recommendations from locals, I decided to visit Nammaene Wanggalchi, which is known for its delicious offerings. It was a successful choice! Not only was the taste fantastic, but the value for money was excellent as well.
1. Nammaene Wanggalchi for Breakfast in Seogwipo
I visited Nammaene Wanggalchi, located inside the Olle Market. It was convenient since I had planned to visit the market anyway. The restaurant opens at 9 AM, making it a perfect breakfast spot. The menu features hearty and affordable Korean dishes, making it an ideal choice for breakfast.
For parking, you can use the public parking lot at Olle Market. However, there is no parking fee support from the shops, and only the first 30 minutes are free. After that, you'll need to pay based on your usage time.
✔ Location: 20, Jungjeong-ro 73beon-gil, Seogwipo, Jeju
✔ Business Hours: Daily from 9 AM to 8 PM (last order at 7:20 PM)
2. Atmosphere and Size of the Restaurant
The interior of the restaurant is spacious, making it comfortable for dining. It can accommodate large groups, and the tables are well-spaced to ensure guests can enjoy their meals without feeling crowded.
The decor is charming, reminiscent of visiting a grandmother's house, with a retro vibe. The food is served on elegant trays, which adds to the delightful experience.
3. Eye-Catching Menu Options
As I sat down to order, I was surprised to see that a set meal of Jeju galchi jorim or grilled galchi was priced at just 18,000 won per person. Isn’t galchi usually expensive? The good news is that you can order a single serving, allowing each person to choose their preference. I opted for jorim while my friend chose grilled galchi.
After a short wait, our meals arrived on separate trays, complete with rice, soup, soy sauce, side dishes, and salad. The breakfast set from Jeju Seogwipo was not only plentiful but also satisfying. The flavors were well-balanced, making it suitable for all ages.
4. Sweet and Spicy Jorim
Even though we ordered separately, both the jorim and grilled options looked tempting, so we decided to share. After tasting the jorim, we both agreed it was delicious. The seasoning was perfect, not overly salty or sweet, and the galchi was tender and flavorful.
5. Mild and Moist Grilled Galchi
After enjoying the jorim, I quickly tried a piece of the grilled galchi. The rich flavor was impressive, and it was a great way to start the day. The grilled galchi was fresh, with no fishy taste, showcasing the quality of the dish.
For anyone planning a trip to Seogwipo, I highly recommend including a visit to Nammaene Wanggalchi in your itinerary. You will enjoy a warm and hearty meal that feels like home-cooked food.
