Jeju's Best Galchi Restaurant

Galchi Jorim and Grilled Galchi in Jeju City

During our 3-day family trip to Jeju,

we discovered Sonmatchon, a restaurant specializing in galchi dishes!

We visited this place after trekking the Saryeoni Forest Path and Mt. Sangumburi.

The travel destinations were fantastic, and the restaurant received high praise from the whole family.

If you're traveling east in Jeju, be sure to stop by this recognized gem!

1. Basic Information about Sonmatchon

After finishing our trek at Saryeoni Forest Path,

we headed to Sonmatchon for lunch. It was close by,

and there was a dedicated parking lot, making it easy to park and enter the restaurant.

The interior featured all seats in a standing style,

and it was spacious and clean, leaving a good first impression.

The owner and staff were friendly and kind,

making us feel glad we came here :)

✔ Address: 661 Bijarim-ro, Jocheon-eup, Jeju City

✔ Parking: Large parking lot available

✔ Operating Hours: 9:00 AM - 8:30 PM, Closed on Wednesdays

✔ Suitable for Group Visits: Reservations available, high chairs provided

2. Menu and Ordering

After being seated, we looked over the menu.

Unable to choose between galchi jorim and grilled galchi,

we decided to order both! We ordered 4 servings of jorim

and 3 servings of grilled galchi, completing our order generously!

While the main dishes were being prepared, the side dishes were quickly set up.

It felt like home-cooked food, warm and cozy.

3. Grilled Galchi

The star of the meal, the galchi, appeared with an astonishing visual.

The jorim looked so delicious it made our mouths water,

and the grilled galchi was larger than our forearms, bringing smiles!

At home, we usually see smaller pieces from the market,

so seeing such a large galchi was both unfamiliar and fascinating.

The staff expertly removed the bones in no time,

and we were grateful for their assistance.

We eagerly picked up the tender galchi flesh and tasted it.

It melted in our mouths, and everyone nodded in agreement:

this is indeed a Jeju gem!

4. Galchi Jorim with Ferns

The galchi jorim at Sonmatchon uniquely featured ferns.

Did you know ferns are one of Jeju's specialties?

Combining it with galchi, Sonmatchon offers a truly distinctive dish.

Unlike other restaurants that overpower the galchi's flavor with excessive ingredients,

here, you can fully enjoy the galchi's charm!

The seasoning itself was delicious,

clean and mildly spicy, making it quite addictive.

Mixing it with rice made for a delightful meal!

The galchi flesh soaked in seasoning with ferns on top kept us eating.

It was the best galchi jorim we had in Jeju!

5. Conclusion

Sonmatchon offers excellent food,

and we couldn't stop eating until the dishes were empty.

After the meal, everyone, including our young son,

felt satisfied and eager to return.

With spacious seating, convenient parking, cleanliness,

reasonable prices, and fresh ingredients,

there was not a single downside. Be sure to visit!
