Affordable Dining near Seongsan Ilchulbong: A Local Gem

When planning a trip to the eastern part of Jeju, finding a good black pork restaurant is a must. During my recent visit, I discovered a place that truly stands out.
Located in Seongsan, Samsoojung Restaurant has been gaining a reputation as an affordable dining option near Seongsan Ilchulbong, so I visited with high expectations.
Address: 1st Floor, 45 Dongnyuam-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju
Operating Hours: 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM (Last Order at 9:00 PM)
1. Location and Parking
The restaurant is conveniently located near Seongsan Ilchulbong, making it easy to include in your sightseeing itinerary. It's also close to Seopjikoji, so it's perfect for combining visits. The location is ideal for those traveling through eastern Jeju.
One of the highlights is the ample parking space right in front of the restaurant, eliminating the hassle of searching for a spot. Parking can often be a source of stress during Jeju trips, so starting off on a positive note was great.
Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious interior and the comfortable distance between tables, creating a pleasant dining environment suitable for families and groups.
2. Ordering and Side Dishes
On this visit, we ordered the signature dish, a set including a variety of black pork, thick-cut belly pork, and neck meat (600g) with a side of soybean paste stew. The portion was perfect for two people.
After placing our order, the side dishes began to arrive, heightening our anticipation. The variety was impressive, and each dish was flavorful rather than just numerous.
One standout was the pickled radish, which had a crunchy texture and a perfect balance of tanginess that complemented the meat beautifully. It was so delicious that I kept reaching for more!
Additionally, fresh liver and beef tripe were served, both of which were clean and enjoyable without any unpleasant taste. The quality was high enough to make it easy to enjoy without hesitation.
The liver was vibrant and glistening, assuring us of its freshness. Its unique soft and moist texture was delightful, and the nutty flavor intensified with each bite.
The tripe had a pleasant chewiness without being tough, providing a satisfying crunch. It was clean-tasting and very enjoyable.
3. Thickly Sliced Belly and Neck Pork
The price for the black pork set (600g) was 65,000 KRW, which is quite reasonable considering the current Jeju prices. The quality of the meat made it feel like a great value.
The moment the black pork arrived, I could tell it was fresh just by looking at it. The color and the ideal ratio of fat to lean meat were impressive.
The staff grilled the meat on a well-heated charcoal grill, which made for a comfortable dining experience without any hassle.
Thick cuts like this can be tricky to cook without burning, but the staff handled it perfectly, ensuring the best texture and flavor of the black pork.
When I took a bite of the perfectly grilled belly pork, the outer layer was crispy while the inside was juicy, bursting with flavor.
The neck meat was equally appealing, with a tender and chewy texture that kept me going back for more. Typically, neck meat can be dry, but here it was different.
Pairing it with pickled cabbage balanced the richness of the meat, making it easy to continue eating without feeling overwhelmed.
4. Cold Noodles and Beef Tartare as Sides
After a while, we decided to order cold noodles. The refreshing broth and chewy noodles provided a nice palate cleanser after the rich meat.
Finally, we tried the beef tartare, which exceeded my expectations. It was fresh, not at all fishy, and had a rich, tender texture.
It’s rare to find a black pork restaurant that excels in both meat and tartare, but Samsoojung Restaurant managed to do both exceptionally well, making for a memorable meal.
5. Overall Impression of the Affordable Dining Experience
Samsoojung Restaurant, at first glance, appears to be a charming local spot, but it actually has a 50-year tradition as a well-respected dining establishment in Seongsan Ilchulbong.
It’s not just a typical tourist spot; it encompasses all the elements that make it deserving of the title of an affordable dining destination. With a legacy passed down through two generations, it’s a local gem where you can truly enjoy Jeju's black pork and high-quality beef.
