A Unique Dining Experience at Seodamheon

Today, I want to share my honest review of Seodamheon, located between Hongdae and Yeonnam-dong. This restaurant offers Korean-style Chinese cuisine with many unique menu options, which made me excited to visit. To be frank, it didn't fully meet my expectations, but I'll detail the distinctive dishes for those curious.
Typically, Chinese restaurants are in old buildings with little attention to decor, but Seodamheon features a traditional Hanok-style building and a well-thought-out interior. It seems like a suitable place for a date or an important meeting. Inside, I noticed many couples and groups of friends enjoying their meals.
Seodamheon is not located on the main street but rather set back in the building, which might cause visitors to miss it if they’re not careful. I recommend checking the map closely when heading there.
The food was a bit disappointing, but the atmosphere was quite pleasant. The clean and modern decor, along with Christmas decorations, created a nice year-end vibe. There’s also a bar table that’s great for solo diners.
For our meal, I ordered Jajangmyeon, while my friend chose the Samjjamyeon, which combines elements of land and sea. Both dishes used a soybean paste base instead of the typical black bean sauce, making them quite unique.
The noodles in my Jajangmyeon were different from the usual; they were thick yet thin, resembling knife-cut noodles. The soybean paste gave it a rich brown color and a distinct flavor different from traditional Jajangmyeon.
My friend's Samjjamyeon was a generous 1.5 portions, which seemed substantial. It would be perfect for someone with a hearty appetite. However, I found it hard to say it was particularly delicious for the price, which was a bit disappointing.
The Tangsooyuk, or sweet and sour pork, was cute and round, just like its name suggests. The bite-sized pieces were convenient to eat, but I felt the portion was small for the price. The batter was quite thick, so it didn’t allow for a full appreciation of the meat's texture, and the flavor wasn’t outstanding either.
The mini glutinous rice donuts I ordered as a side (4,000 won) were similarly underwhelming in both portion and taste, so I wouldn’t particularly recommend them.
Seodamheon is a place worth visiting for those wanting to try unique dishes like soybean Jajangmyeon or knife-cut noodles, or for anyone looking for a date spot. However, considering the price versus satisfaction, I left feeling a bit unsure. It’s a place that scores points for uniqueness rather than value for money.
