When you travel to Jeju Island, there's one dish that lingers in your mind: mackerel! Interestingly, it seems like you can only truly appreciate its flavor when enjoyed by the beautiful waters of Jeju. Even with a short trip, I wanted to savor a proper meal, so I chose Haenyeo Sisters near Hyeopjae Beach.

Haenyeo Sisters is famous for offering a full spread of grilled and braised mackerel while overlooking the stunning blue sea of Jeju. From the moment I arrived, the emerald waters visible through the windows filled me with excitement.

Parking can often be a concern when visiting popular tourist spots, but here, the spacious and dedicated parking area set a positive tone right from the start. As soon as I stepped out of the car, the salty sea breeze awakened my appetite.

Inside, the warm and cozy lighting creates an inviting atmosphere. The high ceilings and open layout make the space feel expansive, and the generous spacing between tables allows for a leisurely dining experience without feeling cramped.

The walls adorned with signatures and memorabilia from various celebrities confirm that this is indeed a well-reviewed restaurant. Most importantly, the breathtaking view of Hyeopjae Beach through the large windows is a compelling reason to visit.

I decided to order the popular grilled and braised mackerel set. True to its reputation, the side dishes were delicious, and I appreciated the convenience of being able to help myself to the homemade sides at the self-service bar.

Shortly after, a generous array of side dishes was served, showcasing a lot of care and attention. Among the various places I visited during my 1-night, 2-day trip, the quality of the meal here stood out the most.

The sashimi served alongside the pork was incredibly firm and smooth, indicating top-notch freshness. The right amount of moisture allowed the natural sweetness to emerge, complemented by a clean aftertaste.

A spoonful of the hearty soup warmed my insides, offering comfort. The deep flavor of the pork and seaweed truly captured the essence of Jeju.

The grilled abalone, with its subtle buttery aroma, tantalized my senses. The seasoning penetrated beautifully between the cuts, providing a chewy yet tender texture that filled my mouth.

Taking a bite of the plump abalone released both the ocean's nutrients and a delightful nuttiness—this is the essence of a Jeju trip, isn't it?

The fried squid also impressed with its crispy batter encasing a chewy interior, making it a delightful treat that whetted my appetite.

The grilled mackerel was the highlight, allowing me to experience the fish's natural flavor at its best. The outside was perfectly crispy and golden, while the inside remained moist, creating a delightful contrast in texture!

Its mild seasoning allowed the unique nuttiness of the mackerel to linger in my mouth, harmonizing beautifully with the crunchiness of the skin and the softness of the flesh. The staff even performed the thoughtful act of removing the bones for us, enabling us to focus solely on the taste—what a wonderful touch!

The flaky texture melted in my mouth, revealing a subtle sweetness that made it hard to put down my chopsticks. Placing generous pieces of mackerel on freshly steamed rice made it a true rice thief!

It's remarkable how the grilled mackerel can deliver such a rich flavor without any overpowering seasonings. I found myself quickly finishing my rice, not wanting to miss a single bite.

This grilled dish, infused with the essence of Jeju's sea, was undoubtedly the highlight of my culinary experience during this trip. I hope you get to savor the tenderness of the mackerel as well!

As the star of the meal, the braised mackerel commanded attention right from its arrival. The sauce simmered down, giving the fish a beautiful red sheen—just the aroma alone could make me finish a bowl of rice!

The mackerel was so tender that it fell apart with just a touch of the chopsticks. The neatly removed bones made it very easy to eat, which is a significant advantage.

Mixing the well-seasoned mackerel with rice created a perfect harmony of nutty and savory flavors. The added chewiness of the abalone and the sweetness of the shrimp made it a true feast!

With large vegetables also infused with the rich sauce, mashing them added an enjoyable element to the meal. I could easily finish a bowl of rice because of the addictive nature of the seasoning.

If you want to taste the essence of Jeju mackerel, this braised dish is a must-try!

After the meal, heading up to the second floor, I found a charming souvenir shop filled with delightful items reflecting the spirit of Jeju, perfect for picking gifts for friends.

And with complimentary coffee in hand, I enjoyed some leisure time in the café area. Sipping coffee while gazing at the Jeju sea through the large windows enhanced the aftertaste of the meal. My time at Haenyeo Sisters was undoubtedly the most satisfying moment of my 1-night, 2-day trip to Jeju.
