A Memorable Family Dinner at Odon in Changwon

Choosing a dining place for my parents' birthday every year is quite a challenge.
Our family, which loves meat, often goes to Odon, a popular meat restaurant with private rooms in Sangnam-dong, Changwon.
The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly service, making each visit enjoyable.
We gathered with family and visited Odon, conveniently located near Changwon Square, with ample parking available.
The black brick exterior draws attention, giving it a café-like vibe.
The wooden tones create a cozy atmosphere suitable for diners of all ages.
Upon entering, we noticed the well-aged meats displayed in the refrigerator, showcasing the restaurant's confidence in their offerings.
The owner's pride was evident, and seeing the glistening fresh meat made me eager to taste it.
The interior is simply decorated with wood tones, providing a sense of stability.
There are sofa seats with backs that offer comfort and privacy from other tables.
The spacious private rooms can accommodate larger groups, making it an ideal setting for quiet family conversations.
We ordered pork belly and neck meat, along with some yukhoe (raw beef) and steamed eggs as sides.
The table was filled with side dishes that my parents enjoy, including around 7-8 varieties of banchan, sauces, and kimchi, perfectly complementing the meat.
I appreciated the fresh lettuce and perilla leaves provided for wrapping.
The pickled vegetables, sweet and tangy, were not overly spicy yet enhanced our appetite.
Both the myung-na-mul and gochujang pickles had unique flavors, making it hard to choose a favorite.
The seasoned vegetables had a delightful crunch and nuttiness, likely due to the owner's touch.
Before the meat arrived, we were already enjoying the delicious banchan, making the time fly by.
The yukhoe was plentiful, reassuring us we wouldn't run out.
It was served traditionally with egg yolk, sprouts, and pear, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.
The rich taste of the yukhoe paired perfectly with a glass of soju as we celebrated the birthday.
When the pork belly and neck meat arrived, both were impressively thick.
As soon as they hit the grill, the sizzling sound made our mouths water.
We added mushrooms, garlic, and meljeot (fermented shrimp sauce) to the grill for extra flavor.
While the staff doesn't grill the meat for you, you can request a pre-grill if desired.
This time, we opted to grill it ourselves, and using charcoal instead of gas made a noticeable difference in flavor.
The smoky aroma infused the meat, enhancing its taste compared to other places.
Even though neck meat is usually lean, it was surprisingly tender and juicy, thanks to proper aging.
For those who usually find neck meat dry, I highly recommend trying it at this restaurant.
Dipping it in meljeot added a rich, ocean flavor that was simply delightful.
It balanced the greasiness and brought out the umami, making it quite addictive.
When it got a bit heavy, the spicy pickled peppers helped cleanse the palate.
The crunchy texture and salty flavor of the peppers paired well with the meat.
To finish, we enjoyed a rich kimchi stew simmered with meat and aged kimchi, a popular menu item.
The spicy broth was refreshing and perfect as a side dish for our meal.
Dining with loved ones in a private space made for a delightful day.
If the meat tastes good, it's a win, and the comfortable atmosphere is sure to please older diners.
If you're looking for a great meat restaurant in Sangnam-dong, Changwon, be sure to check out Odon.
