The Elegant Beauty of the Jochon Lotus Park This Summer

Do you remember the vibrant cherry blossom tunnel along the Jochon River that used to be packed with visitors every spring? Now, as the season shifts to summer, on the opposite side of the cherry blossom path lies the Jochon Lotus Park, which holds a different elegance reminiscent of summer days. Before the peak heat begins, I visited the park today (June 24) with excitement, as I've heard that the lotus flowers are getting ready to bloom.
The blooming status of Jochon Lotus Park can be summed up as 'the thrill has just begun.' The elegant lotus flowers have started to show their beauty in the vast lotus colony, although many buds remain tightly closed. Even their closed form evokes a refreshing feeling.
There were some differences in blooming status by area. The lotus colony near Bunam Bridge heading towards Jochon Bridge already had quite a few flower stalks rising, hinting at a colorful festival ahead. In contrast, the area extending from Bunam Bridge towards Mihogang had fewer visible lotus flowers. By the time we reach early July, I expect the entire area will be covered in vibrant red and pure white lotus flowers, showcasing the park's reputation as a lotus hotspot in Sejong.
Jochon Lotus Park, located near the bustling city, offers a serene ecological walking experience. Spanning over 50,000 square meters beneath Bunam Bridge, this ecological lotus complex is not just about viewing lotus flowers but also enjoying the tranquil riverside scenery along well-maintained trails.
The wooden deck path that crosses the lotus colony is the highlight of this walk. It allows visitors to stroll gracefully among the flowers and will become a prime photo spot as the lotus blooms reach their peak. Along with the deck path, numerous walking trails provide a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There are also pavilions and benches for resting, and the clean, well-maintained public restrooms make it convenient for family visitors.
If you're driving, it's essential to check parking information in advance. Jochon Lotus Park has a spacious parking lot, making it very convenient. You can find the entrance to the parking lot by crossing Jochon or Bunam Bridge and slowly following the embankment road.
However, since this is an open riverside park, there is very little shade during the day. To avoid the intense sunlight starting from late June, hats, umbrellas, and sunglasses are must-haves. Visiting unprepared can lead to fatigue, so make sure to bring these essentials. The park is also connected to the Ocheon Bicycle Path, which runs from Hapgang to Mungyeong Saejae, making it a great option to enjoy a light bike ride and take a break to admire the lotus flowers.
This summer, seize the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Sejong's lotus flowers. My visit today suggested that the park is gearing up for its full bloom. While the flowers are still in their early stages, just seeing the large lotus leaves swaying in the breeze is refreshing. Imagining the vibrant scene that will soon unfold, I already look forward to my visit in July.
There aren't many places in Sejong where you can enjoy such a large-scale and comfortable walking experience. For those wishing to escape the crowds of a vibrant festival and breathe in nature more leisurely, or for families planning an ecological outing with children, this park is the perfect destination.
This weekend, why not take a light stroll in Jochon Lotus Park, where the subtle fragrance has just started to spread? The elegant Sejong lotus flowers are waiting for your footsteps along the riverbank. Enjoy the fresh vitality of nature that can only be experienced at this time of year and capture a memorable photo this summer.
While the spacious and pleasant deck at Jochon Lotus Park may tempt you to engage in cooking or camping, please remember that such activities are prohibited. It's essential to have a mature sense of civic responsibility by taking your trash with you, ensuring that we can preserve this beautiful nature for a long time. May your outing this weekend shine brightly with the fragrant lotus blooms.
