Today, I embarked on a historical journey in Goyang.

Deep within the forest of Daejasan lies the tomb of General Choi Young.

Goyang is a fascinating place to explore at any time, filled with stories.

Today's highlight is General Choi Young, a renowned military leader featured in our textbooks.

Let me introduce you to the tomb of General Choi Young.

Location: Daeja-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province.

Visiting Hours: Open year-round without restrictions.

This site was designated as Gyeonggi Province Monument No. 23 in 1975.

Parking is available at the entrance, with enough space for several vehicles. Both parking and entry are free.

There is a stone inscribed with General Choi Young's saying, "Treat gold as if it were a stone."

Additionally, the Daejasan area was a site of independence movement activities.

During the March 1st Movement, many residents held protests here.

At the entrance, you can find the graves of Gyeongan-gun and Imchang-gun, and the tomb of General Choi Young is a bit further up the mountain.

Daejasan is quietly located on the southwestern slope.

Following the mountain path past the residential area, you will arrive at the tomb. It was quite hot, and I was sweating, but the lush forest provided fresh air, making it a pleasant walk.

The atmosphere felt more like a serene historical site rather than a tourist spot.

This path is part of the Goyang Dongnuri Trail.

The trail starts from the Philippine War Memorial and leads to various sites including the tomb of General Choi Young and the Goyang Confucian School.

It's a total of 7.1 km, taking about 2 hours and 40 minutes. Daejasan is not very high, with a peak of 210 meters.

It's a quiet forest area, so there are caution signs posted. It was indeed peaceful and secluded.

The Goyang Dongnuri Trail also has safety markers.

General Choi Young, who lived by the principle of treating gold as a stone, is a historical figure who successfully repelled foreign invaders during the late Goryeo Dynasty.

He was born in Cheorwon in 1316 and won numerous battles, but was eventually captured and executed at the age of 73 in 1388.

The path leading to the tomb was quite steep, but upon reaching it, I felt a sense of solemnity.

The front is where General Choi Young's tomb is located, and the back is the grave of his father, Choi Won-jik.

The color of the stones forming the base of the tomb shows its age, allowing me to truly feel the passage of time.

The style of the tomb and its markers reflects the Goryeo period, which was impressive.

It felt surreal to encounter a figure I had only seen in history books.

This is a great educational site for children as well.

In summary, the tomb of General Choi Young is a prominent historical site in Goyang.

It is free to visit, and parking is available.

This is a great place to take a stroll and enjoy the surroundings, but wear comfortable shoes due to the stairs.

It is a quiet location, so please be respectful while visiting.
