Exploring the Night View of the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge in Sejong City
Sejong City has several places where the atmosphere changes dramatically between day and night. Among them, the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge, also known as I-eung Bridge, offers a unique experience at night.
This time, I brought my camera and tripod to visit the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge in the evening. My goal was not just to take a stroll but to capture the night scenery of the Geum River and Sejong City, along with the bridge's structure.
As I headed towards the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge before sunset, I noticed that Sejong City has a well-organized urban plan, making the cityscape quite impressive as the sunset light illuminated the roads, buildings, parks, and green spaces.
The view of Sejong City from the car felt different from the daytime. As the lights in the buildings turned on and the streetlights brightened, the entire city gradually transformed into a night scene.
As I approached the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge, my anticipation for the night photography grew.
Upon arriving at the bridge, I found the surroundings already cloaked in darkness. While the unique structure and scenery of the bridge stood out during the day, the added lighting at night created a completely different atmosphere. The view of the bridge across the Geum River was particularly photogenic.
The objective of this shoot was not only to capture the bridge itself but also to encapsulate the reflections on the river and the overall night scenery of Sejong City in one frame.
After parking in the bridge's parking lot, I prepared for the shoot. In night photography, the parking spot is crucial. After parking, I gathered my camera and tripod and moved to the shooting location. Since night landscape photography often requires longer shutter speeds, bringing a tripod is advisable.
With my camera and tripod in hand, I scouted for shooting points around the bridge. The shape of the bridge and the reflections on the river vary greatly depending on the viewpoint, so it’s better to explore the area before setting up the camera.
After deciding on a shooting location, I set up my tripod. Night landscape photography often yields different results than what the eyes perceive. Particularly in scenes with illuminated structures like the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge, it’s essential to manage the exposure differences between bright and dark areas.
Using a tripod allows for longer shutter speeds, capturing a smoother surface of the river while keeping the bridge's lights sharp.
One of the most anticipated scenes during this shoot was the bridge's lights reflecting on the dark river. As the lights illuminated the river, a soft glow emerged on the surface. While the bridge's structural form was evident during the day, at night, the lights and reflections transformed it into a stunning night scene.
After photographing the river’s night view, I organized my camera and walked onto the bridge. Unlike typical road bridges, the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge is designed for pedestrians. Standing on the bridge allows for a closer view of the surrounding river scenery and a different perspective of Sejong City's night view.
On the bridge, the view is different from below. The reflections on the river and the city lights come together, allowing for various compositions. Rather than simply crossing the bridge, walking slowly and observing the surroundings reveals many potential photography spots.
During night photography, it’s natural to glance at the sky. While stars are scarce in the city, looking towards less illuminated areas can capture the contrast between the dark sky and city lights.
This shoot allowed me to document the Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge and the night sky, providing a broader perspective of Sejong City's night scenery.
