Exploring the Future at the Daehwa Library Maker & Book Festival

Welcome!
These days, libraries seem to be more than just spaces for reading books.
Last weekend, I visited the Daehwa Library in Ilsan, where I saw children engaging with AI and robots instead of simply reading.
They were enjoying various experiences that combined future technologies with literature, such as competing with AI and controlling robots.
This event was the 'Maker & Book Festival' at Daehwa Library.
Initially, I thought it would be just a fun experience for kids, but as I observed them participating in different activities, I felt that these children are preparing to live in a future alongside AI.
The festival was themed 'Reading the Future with AI and Creating the Future as Makers.'
At the event, there were various hands-on programs related to future industries, including AI, mobility, and robotics.
What caught my attention was how the activities were designed to allow children to naturally experience future technologies.
In the past, libraries were places for reading and gaining knowledge, but now they offer direct experiences with AI and robots, showcasing a shift in their role.
The event started at 10:30 AM, but children were already arriving with their parents from 10 AM, eager to participate.
One of the highlights was the 'Goyang Cat' character, which became very popular among the kids for photo opportunities.
The first attraction was the AI autonomous driving experience, where children could see how cars recognize their surroundings and move on their own.
While terms like 'artificial intelligence' and 'autonomous driving' might sound complex, the hands-on experience made it easier for kids to understand these concepts in a fun way.
Another exciting activity was the 'AI Omok Challenge,' where children could compete against AI in the traditional game of Omok.
This blend of a familiar game with AI allowed them to experience the decision-making process of artificial intelligence in a playful manner.
Robot soccer was also a big hit among the kids, combining the familiar sport with robotics for an entertaining experience.
Through these activities, children were introduced to concepts like robotics, AI, and sensors in a fun and engaging way.
Moreover, the festival wasn't just about observing future technologies; it also included hands-on programs where participants could create and experience things themselves.
Activities like mug-making, Shrinkles keychains, string art, and 3D pen experiences provided children with special opportunities to create and engage.
In summary, the 'Maker & Book Festival' at Daehwa Library offered children valuable experiences of encountering the future through AI and robotics, making it a memorable event.
Thank you.
