Exploring Goyang Artificial Rock Climbing Gym

Should I lounge at home or go out and work up a sweat?
On a weekend morning, I opened the window and found the weather to be quite nice. At that moment, my mind was split between two thoughts: 'Should I stay in and relax?' vs 'Should I go out and exercise?'
However, the gym feels stuffy, running is hindered by fine dust and wind, and hiking requires a mental commitment. Recently, many people have turned to sports climbing as a way to engage their entire body in a short amount of time while also gaining a sense of achievement.
Today, I would like to introduce the 'Goyang Artificial Rock Climbing Gym.' I will focus on the questions that first-time visitors might have before actually coming here.
Location and Parking
Address: 1601 Jungang-ro, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do
The Goyang Artificial Rock Climbing Gym is located behind the Goyang Sports Complex.
If you are using public transportation, you can get off at Daehwa Station, which is within walking distance (599m from Exit 3).
If you are driving, set your destination to 'Goyang Artificial Rock Climbing Gym' on Naver Maps. There is parking available in front of the gym, but the number of parking spaces is limited to four, making it difficult to accommodate many vehicles. In such cases, you can use the parking lot at the 'Auxiliary Stadium of Goyang Sports Complex' located right across the street.
If you have purchased a day pass, show your ticket and vehicle number to the gym manager to receive a parking fee discount.
Operating Hours
The outdoor facilities' operation hours vary between summer and winter.
In summer (April to October), the hours are 14:00 to 22:00 with a break from 18:00 to 19:00. The gym is well-lit for night climbing.
In winter (November to March), only the indoor climbing gym is operational from 10:00 to 18:00 with a break from 12:00 to 13:00. Note that the winter hours apply on weekends and holidays, and every Tuesday is a regular closing day.
Usage Fees
Here are the fees for a two-hour session:
Day Pass:
Weekdays: Adults 2,200 KRW, Youth/Military 1,650 KRW, Children 1,100 KRW
Weekends and Holidays: Adults 3,300 KRW, Youth/Military 2,200 KRW, Children 1,650 KRW
Monthly Pass:
Weekdays: Adults 49,500 KRW, Youth/Military 44,000 KRW, Children 38,500 KRW
Weekend sports can be a financial burden, making it hard to get started. However, the fee for a two-hour session is low enough to encourage trying it out as part of a weekend routine.
How to Use the Gym
For first-timers, the first thing to do upon arrival is to get your ticket. You can purchase it from the self-service kiosk on-site.
Facility Overview
From a distance, the gym's structure catches your eye. The climbing wall is 18 meters high and 35 meters wide, covering an area of 348 square meters, making it quite sizable for a public facility.
In addition to the outdoor climbing wall, there is also an indoor climbing gym available during winter. The indoor gym operates only from November to March with the same hours as mentioned earlier.
The facility includes showers, restrooms, and lockers. Upon arrival, the atmosphere felt surprisingly lively, with many climbers already on various routes.
Unlike a solitary workout, there is a supportive environment where climbers naturally cheer each other on. Observing others helps you learn and feel motivated to join in.
At Goyang Artificial Rock Climbing Gym, citizens can experience sports climbing with relatively low costs, making it an accessible public sports facility for full-body exercise and outdoor activities.
Please check the operating hours, closing days, and usage fees in advance, and adhere to safety regulations on-site for a safe experience.
