The night path of Dangjincheon, a resting place for the citizens of Dangjin and a cherry blossom hotspot, has become brighter.
The night landscape lighting project that started last March was completed in August after four phases.
How has it changed?
I enjoyed a night walk centered around the last completed section.
Dangjincheon, a popular walking spot, originates from Mongsan in Seongbuk-ri, Sunsung-myeon, flowing through downtown Dangjin to Yeokcheon, covering a length of 16.43 KM.
From Suchung-dong to Seongbuk-ri, a 7 KM stretch of royal cherry trees extends, adjacent to parks like Eoreumsu Stream Park and Yeoul Stream Park.
The walking paths along the stream and the road run parallel, welcoming many citizens of Dangjin.
However, until about four years ago, there was little nighttime lighting in most sections, making it inconvenient.
That path was selected for the 2024 Ministry of the Interior and Safety's autonomous police committee project, focusing on crime prevention design, leading to the development of nighttime landscape lighting over three years.
Starting from areas densely populated with residential complexes, all sections were completed this September, making nighttime walking much more comfortable.
I walked along sections that underwent phases 3 and 4, including the Cheongryong Bridge, Musudong Bridge, and Daedeok 1 Bridge.
The round trip was about 2 KM, taking approximately 40 minutes, making it a one-hour night stroll.
The nighttime landscape lighting at Dangjincheon was installed along the stream and adjacent walking paths and bridges.
Starting from Dangjin 3 Bridge to Daedeok 1 Bridge, there are over 400 light bars and about 530 floodlights spanning approximately 2 KM.
Additionally, in phases 2 and 3, vibrant landscape lighting was installed on the streambed and bridge sculptures.
As evening approaches, the surroundings are enveloped in darkness, with lights from buildings and the nighttime landscape lighting of Dangjincheon breaking through the pitch-black night.
The landscape lighting blends with the reeds and trees, casting a gentle glow that enhances the romantic autumn night.
During my hour-long walk, I frequently encountered people jogging and strolling along Dangjincheon.
The silhouettes of approaching individuals became clear from a distance, allowing for safe distancing as we passed each other.
The walking paths along Dangjincheon stretch out, and as the types of trees change, so does the nighttime scenery.
Finally, the section where nighttime landscape lighting was installed stretches about 1.4 KM from Cheongryong Bridge to Musudong Bridge, with the sunflower park at the entrance of Eoreumsu Stream Park marking the end of the project.
The bridge lighting changes colors, creating a more vibrant night, while the floodlights illuminate the area above and below the stream.
The dual effect of the stream and hillside paths allows for enjoyable walks, crossing up and down via the stairs installed along the way.
The lighting varies with the terrain and the bridges, alleviating any monotony.
The nighttime landscape lighting project for improving the walking environment along Dangjincheon was completed in September after three years.
Dangjincheon has become bright and safe even at night, making it a great place for evening strolls and runs.
The bridge lighting casts a romantic glow, and the waves of Dangjincheon dance in the night.
