The Beauty of Hydrangeas at Ami Art Museum

June is beautiful because of the blooming hydrangeas. Every year, I visit a destination in Chungnam to see these flowers, and the highlight is the Ami Art Museum.
Located in the quiet town of Sunsung-myeon, Dangjin, the Ami Art Museum is a meaningful space that was once a closed school transformed into an art museum. The museum is beautiful in all four seasons, but the summer, when the hydrangeas bloom, is a must-visit.
After being captivated by the charm of hydrangeas during my first visit two years ago, I returned this year to find the candy-colored hydrangeas in full bloom, delighting visitors in this tranquil rural village.
On June 21, 2026, I found that the hydrangeas were about 60% in bloom, and I expect them to be at their most beautiful this weekend. With the lovely flowers and charming walking paths, I bring you the latest news from the Ami Art Museum.
The early summer at Ami Art Museum is special. The ivy climbing around the old school and the colorful hydrangeas in white, pink, and blue resemble sweet candy flowers.
Last Sunday, I visited to see the hydrangeas, and I was greeted by a beautiful path lined with these flowers right from the entrance.
The hydrangeas at the museum come in various types, but the star-shaped hydrangeas captivated my attention the most. These little stars clustered together sparkled with the morning dew from the rain.
I found myself standing still, mesmerized by the beauty of these flowers.
While I went to capture the hydrangeas, I discovered the museum also hosts a variety of other plants. The small rose bushes, which usually bloom in May, still displayed their vivid colors.
Although it is a small museum, the diverse collection of flowers and plants makes each visit richer with stories.
As you walk along the hydrangea path, you will encounter a photo zone with a carriage, which is considered part of the museum's installation art. Taking pictures here will leave you with beautiful memories alongside the hydrangeas.
I wore a blue dress, remembering that there are many blue hydrangeas, and it harmonized beautifully with the blue carriage.
The stunning shape of the crape myrtle makes me want to return in mid-summer to see it again. Although the leaves are lush and green now, I captured a fantastic photo with the blue star hydrangeas.
Don’t just visit the museum building; you might regret it. If you go down to the lower playground, you will find a café building.
In front of the café, white Annabelle hydrangeas bloom, and there is also a photo zone with birch trees and a red telephone booth. The combination of the red brick building and blooming hydrangeas creates a beautiful space, so I recommend that visitors explore the playground area as well.
Behind the Ami Art Museum, there is a building called "Maison de Ami" where various experiences can be enjoyed. Beautiful hydrangeas bloom abundantly around this building, and the sight of hydrangea water in a jar is simply breathtaking.
All the aesthetic elements come together in this jar. The cool breeze, the sound of birds in the forest, and the lazy afternoon cats all contribute to the scenery of Ami Art Museum.
There is a hydrangea path stretching for hundreds of meters behind the museum. In this enchanting place, the blue hydrangeas are less in bloom compared to the front.
When I first visited two years ago, I marveled at the endless hydrangea path, wondering how such beauty could exist. This path will likely be in full bloom by early July.
I took some portraits along this hydrangea path, but since hydrangeas prefer moisture, it can be a bit humid. Visitors are advised to use mosquito repellent for a more comfortable experience.
Ami Art Museum is not just about hydrangeas; there is also a bamboo forest path. I recommend taking your time to explore and enjoy the surroundings.
With many photo opportunities featuring birch trees and bamboo, it’s a lovely spot for couples to capture sweet moments. Enjoy the hydrangeas and refreshing drinks for a delightful summer trip.
