Shinan County Enhances Marine Ecosystem and Boosts Fishermen's Income

Shinan County is actively working towards creating a healthy marine ecosystem and increasing the income of fishermen.
On April 24, 170,000 abalone were released, followed by the release of 370,000 juvenile sea cucumbers on May 12 in six locations including the area near Heuksan-do.
The juvenile sea cucumbers, known as the 'ginseng of the sea', are a preparation for a bountiful ocean.
These juvenile sea cucumbers are healthy specimens that have passed disease inspections by the National Fisheries Quality Management Institute.
They were selected for their vitality, weighing over 1.5 grams.
Rather than simply releasing them, they were released into areas where artificial habitats for sea cucumbers were created, minimizing losses from currents and enhancing resource recovery.
Sea cucumbers have a high recapture rate of about 82%, making them an effective species for release.
Due to their excellent nutritional value, they are also recognized for their high added value, making them one of the most preferred species among fishing communities.
Additional releases will continue at the end of May.
Shinan County plans to continue these additional releases at the end of this month.
370,000 juvenile sea cucumbers will be released in five locations including Damul-do.
100,000 clams will be released in three locations including Bangchukji.
50,000 cockles will be released in the Seondo area of Jido-eup.
Moving forward, we will continue to create sustainable marine resources to cultivate a rich ocean and vibrant fishing communities.
Shinan County has released a total of 48 species, amounting to over 40.87 million marine seedlings since 2000, including abalone, sea cucumbers, and clams.
We are committed to restoring marine resources and increasing fishermen's income.
We will continue to strive for a healthy ocean and a sustainable fishing environment.
