Reflecting on the Scenic Tree Project for a Better Tomorrow
The Scenic Tree Project has created beautiful landscapes throughout Sinan.
As a long-standing initiative, we are taking a moment to review the progress made so far and explore ways to sustain it comfortably in the future.
We aim to find new directions for the project while managing it more efficiently and reducing future financial burdens.
It all started in 2009 with the "Scenic Tree Seedling Support Project," which provided funding to around 140 farms for purchasing over 500,000 seedlings.
Since 2019, we have been systematically managing and utilizing scenic trees through acquisition projects, purchasing approximately 210,000 trees from about 130 farms.
Of these, about 170,000 trees have been used for public projects like parks and street trees.
Currently, around 100 farms are managing about 40,000 scenic trees.
As the project continues, new challenges have emerged. From 2019 to 2026, a total of 11.1 billion won will be invested in purchasing scenic trees and acquiring land.
Additionally, there is a limited demand for trees in public projects, leading to occasional inconveniences for farmers and landowners.
We need to carefully examine which methods are the most efficient for relocating existing trees versus purchasing new ones.
Starting in October 2026, Sinan County will conduct an economic feasibility study of the entire scenic tree project.
We will assess how the trees are currently managed, which trees to maintain, the best maintenance practices, and the most efficient methods for relocating existing trees versus planting new ones.
The goal is to not only consider immediate costs but also future management expenses to find a more beneficial direction for Sinan County.
From 2027 onward, we will gradually address the necessary maintenance based on the study's results, focusing on trees with low utility and economic value.
We will ensure that economic and legal aspects are carefully considered during the maintenance process, listening attentively to the opinions of residents, farmers, and landowners.
Our aim is to minimize any inconvenience and burden caused by the project while proceeding steadily.
This revitalization of the scenic tree project is not merely about reducing or organizing trees.
It is a process to reflect on past efforts and use resources more efficiently in essential areas while also reducing future management burdens.
Based on our experiences, Sinan County is committed to establishing a more efficient and sustainable scenic tree management system.
For a better Sinan than today, we will prepare step by step, starting with what we can do now.
