Exploring Unique Natural Landscapes in Busan: Sodam Park

When thinking of a trip to Busan, it's easy to first imagine familiar sea views like Haeundae or Gwangalli.
However, if you shift your gaze just a little to the west of Busan, you can encounter a different side of nature that you may not have known!
Today, I would like to introduce Sodam Park, located in Gangseo-gu, Busan.
From the vast mudflats to dense forest paths, and even the famous walking trail, Galmaetgil, this is a great spot for nature lovers to explore in a day!
Discovering unique natural attractions in western Busan
Sodam Park
① A Special Experience at the Mudflats of Sodam Park
The first stop on this journey is the mudflats stretching out in front of Sodam Park!
You might be surprised to find that you can experience mudflats even in Busan.
Between Sodam Park and the nearby Sinho Park, there is a wide expanse of mudflats where you can experience a natural landscape not commonly found in Busan.
The biggest feature of this place is that the scenery changes with the tides.
During high tide, you can see the sea, but at low tide, the mudflats reveal themselves, allowing you to walk on them.
In the photos, it was high tide, so the mudflats were not visible, but I found joy watching families catching shrimp and fish.
The mudflat experience does not have a specific program; you can visit freely and enjoy the experience.
There are footbaths available, making it comfortable to enjoy!
Depending on your purpose, I recommend checking the tidal schedule in advance and visiting during low tide.
After spending enough time at the mudflats, head towards the mini breakwater in front of Sodam Park.
You can get closer to the sea and enjoy the sight of floating tied-up fishing boats!
Especially at sunset, the mudflats and sea are bathed in the glow of the sunset, creating a beautiful scene.
② Relaxing in Nature at Sodam Park's Pine Cone Forest
After the mudflat experience, it's time to leisurely enjoy nature.
This is a forest path created around Sodam Park.
Walking while facing the sea and wandering through the forest offers entirely different feelings, even in the same travel destination!
Enjoy a stroll while taking in the pine cones, pine trees, wind, and the sounds of birds.
You don't need to move to a complicated tourist spot; Sodam Park allows you to experience both mudflats and forests in one location.
I recommend sitting on a bench for a while or taking a light walk along the forest path.
③ Walking the Galmaetgil 5 Course from Sodam Park
Finally, let's walk the first section of the Galmaetgil 5 course.
The 5-1 section of Galmaetgil is a coastal path that stretches 14.1 km from the Nakdonggang River Estuary to Myeongji Ocean City, taking about 5 hours to walk.
You can enjoy the atmosphere of Galmaetgil even by choosing just a part of the trail centered around Sodam Park!
Instead of forcing yourself to walk a long distance, select a section that suits your schedule and stamina, and take your time walking.
This makes for a more relaxed conclusion to your journey!
