On the 12th of October, I visited Gamak Mountain in Geochang, where the beautiful purple asters and refreshing autumn scenery awaited!

During this time of year, the summit of Gamak Mountain transforms into a stunning sea of purple. I visited a bit earlier than the 6th Gamak Mountain Flower Star Travel Festival (held from September 18 to October 11), allowing me to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, away from the crowds.

Let me share my delightful experience at Gamak Mountain.

1. The Purple Garden Touching the Sky: Gamak Mountain Aster Fields

Driving up the winding mountain road, I reached the area near the summit (Byeolbaram Hill) and was greeted by expansive fields of asters alongside towering wind turbines. The combination of the blue autumn sky, white clouds, and blooming purple chrysanthemums created a picturesque scene.

The summit offers well-maintained walking paths, including a palm mat trail and an accessible sharing path, making it a perfect spot for families with strollers or wheelchairs. Walking while feeling the gentle breeze truly relieves daily stress.

Symbolic of Geochang, the giant wind turbine offers fantastic photo opportunities with its exotic backdrop. Climbing the uniquely curved observation deck provides breathtaking views, though I regrettably couldn't access it due to maintenance on the day of my visit. If you visit during the festival, don't miss capturing the stunning views from this observation deck!

2. The Subtle Breath of Life: Fields of Chrysanthemums and Forest Trails

Besides the asters, the surrounding fields of Korean chrysanthemums and the lush pine forest are another charm of Gamak Mountain.

Colorful autumn flowers bloom alongside the stone paths, inviting you to pause. I enjoyed the small delights of spotting butterflies resting on petals and unique heart-shaped green leaves.

The sunlight filtering through the pines and the blue sky above create a refreshing atmosphere that rejuvenates both body and mind.

3. A Feast for the Senses: Hearty Local Delicacies

After exploring the vast fields, I couldn't miss the delightful food stalls and food truck zone at the event site. I was pleasantly surprised to find them ready to welcome guests, even though I hadn't expected food options.

The fresh and sweet Geochang apples in a bibimbap, combined with chicory, bean sprouts, seaweed stems, carrots, radish, and sesame seeds, created a perfect harmony, especially when paired with cool bean sprout soup and crisp kimchi.

The hand-made tofu served with stir-fried kimchi from the local women's association was unforgettable, with its rich and mild flavor enhancing the experience.

Delicious seafood chive pancakes, filled with fragrant chives and chewy domestic squid, were perfectly crispy and complemented the bibimbap.

For visitors, please note that the pre-registration for the 6th Gamak Mountain Flower Star Travel Festival has already closed. Those with tickets must bring one ticket per vehicle on the designated date for entry. Shuttle buses will operate for those without reservations, departing from the Geochang Advanced General Industrial Complex parking lot.

Even if you missed pre-registration, don’t worry! You can still enjoy the beautiful purple asters and vibrant autumn through the shuttle service. I highly recommend utilizing the shuttle buses to make the most of your visit!

This autumn, if you wish to heal amidst the vast purple asters and open landscapes, make your way to Gamak Mountain in Geochang! A dazzling autumn gift awaits you.
