Exploring the Unique Charm of Bukbyeok Theme Park in Danyang

When traveling to Danyang in Chungbuk, one might first think of famous attractions like Dodam Sambong or the Mancheon Skywalk.
This time, I decided to explore a different place and visited the Bukbyeok District Theme Park.
While observing the ecosystem of native freshwater fish against the backdrop of the flowing Namhan River, I also explored the Stone Exhibition Hall,
and continued on to enjoy the second of Danyang's eight scenic spots, the northern cliffs, which offered more variety than I expected.
Especially if you're traveling with children, I believe this is a great place to stop by.
So, shall we go together to the Bukbyeok Fish Garden, Fishing Exhibition Hall, Stone Exhibition Hall, and the northern cliffs? ^^
The Bukbyeok District Theme Park is located at 34 Bukbyeok 1-gil, Yeongchun-myeon, Danyang-gun, Chungbuk.
It is a space themed around fish, inspired by the Danyang Sobaksan Garden, among the four color themes.
It was easy to stroll around as nature, ecology, and exhibitions harmoniously blended together.
The first place I visited was the Bukbyeok Fish Garden.
The operating hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and it is closed every Monday.
First, I explored the outdoor fish tanks, where I could see native freshwater fish that actually inhabit the Namhan River up close.
There were familiar fish like the Korean bass and the golden crucian carp.
As I entered the indoor area, I found everything from small mini aquariums to large tanks designed like a greenhouse.
Although not very large, it was fun to observe the fish in different tanks.
Following the indoor exhibition tanks, I encountered underground exhibition tanks, which offered a different angle to view the fish, likely more interesting for children.
They also operate ecology education and experience programs for children, so if you visit with kids, it would be good to check in advance if any programs are running at that time.
There is also a fish farm on one side where they were cultivating the representative fish species of Danyang, the Korean bass,
and I could watch a video of the process of the fry growing up.
It was a sight I don’t usually get to see, and I found myself watching the video intently.
The Fishing Exhibition Hall features various displays, from types of fishing and methods to different floats and even fossils.
I had only thought of regular fishing, but I learned that there are so many diverse aspects.
I discovered that many people contributed valuable materials for the Bukbyeok Fishing Exhibition Hall.
The Korean Traditional Fishing Association was established to promote and teach traditional fishing methods.
I learned about traditional fishing methods, including the use of the unique rod called 'gyeonji' to catch fish.
There are also photo zones and exhibits depicting traditional fishing scenes, creating a unique atmosphere.
It was meaningful to learn about our traditional fishing culture and its stories beyond just viewing the exhibits.
Stepping outside, I saw an intuitive sculpture and the deck path leading to the water reed forest.
Currently green, it promises a breathtaking view in autumn when the reeds bloom.
With walking paths through the water reed forest and ecological forest, it would be nice to take a leisurely stroll after visiting the exhibition hall.
After enjoying the fish garden, make sure to visit the adjacent Stone Exhibition Hall.
Although I am not well-versed in stones, the variety of stones and detailed explanations made it enjoyable to explore.
Observing the shapes of stones shaped by nature over a long time made me think about how perceptions can differ from person to person.
After the exhibitions, I moved on to see the northern cliffs.
There is a separate parking area near the northern cliffs, where I parked and walked to the riverside.
From the pavilion, I admired the peaceful scenery of the flowing Namhan River and the striking rock formations.
The surroundings were so impressive that I truly felt I was at the second of Danyang's eight scenic spots, the northern cliffs.
In summer, the lush green leaves hide parts of the rocky cliffs.
I think visiting in autumn or winter when the leaves have fallen would reveal the cliffs more clearly.

The Bukbyeok District Theme Park may not be a large tourist destination, but it offers a chance to observe freshwater ecosystems in the fish garden, visit the Stone Exhibition Hall, and see the northern cliffs of the Namhan River.
Especially for families with children, it's a space where they can observe fish directly and learn about ecology, making it a worthwhile stop during your travels.
I visited on a hot day, so I didn’t explore the ecological forest for long, but I hope to return when the weather cools down and take a leisurely walk along the water reed path.
