During our recent trip to Jincheon, we visited the Jincheon Local Folk Museum, where we could explore the history and cultural life of the region all in one place. It's conveniently located near Gilsangsa Temple, making it easy to visit both sites together. The museum features outdoor stone artifacts, a first-floor history exhibition hall, and a second-floor local folk materials exhibition hall, providing a comprehensive understanding of Jincheon's history and traditional lifestyles.

The Jincheon Local Folk Museum, which opened in 1996, is a two-story exhibition facility showcasing the cultural heritage and folk materials of the Jincheon area, introducing the region's history and traditional culture.

Location: 1323 Munjin-ro, Jincheon-eup, Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do

Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Closed: Every Monday, January 1st, Lunar New Year, Chuseok holiday

Admission Fee: Free

Parking: Available in front of the museum

The visit begins at the outdoor exhibition area in front of the building. The courtyard features stone artifacts and stele relocated from various locations in Jincheon, allowing visitors to closely observe the local cultural heritage right from the entrance.

The stone statue of the Buddha from Wolseong-ri offers a close-up view of the overall shape, clothing folds, and halo of the statue. By reading the accompanying information, visitors can learn about the characteristics of the artifact and the process by which it was moved to the museum.

The stone pedestal from Gyoseong-ri supports the Buddha statue and showcases intricately carved lotus petals, allowing visitors to explore the traces of Buddhist culture remaining in Jincheon.

Additionally, rare stone artifacts, including Taeham, are on display. By reading the information provided, visitors can learn about each artifact's name, purpose, and discovery location, enriching their outdoor exhibition experience.

The first floor features a history exhibition hall, structured around Jincheon's topographical maps, historical timelines, cultural heritage distribution maps, and discovered artifacts, allowing visitors to examine the history of Jincheon through the flow of time and space.

By looking at the topographical and cultural heritage distribution maps, visitors can see how Jincheon connected with surrounding areas and where cultural heritage sites are located. This exhibition aids in understanding Jincheon's geographical position in the past.

The historical timeline presents Jincheon's changes from prehistoric times to the present in chronological order. Artifacts such as pottery, ceramics, and kiln-related materials discovered in Jincheon are also exhibited, showcasing the evolution of lifestyle and technology over different eras.

The second floor's local folk materials exhibition hall focuses on everyday tools used by people in the past. Through materials related to food, clothing, and agricultural life, visitors can gain a concrete understanding of daily life in Jincheon.

The exhibition features various folk materials used for tasks like garment care, cooking, and farming. Visitors can closely inspect the actual size and shape of tools that are now hard to come by, gaining insights into the lifestyles and wisdom of people from the past. Additionally, photographs and descriptive materials depicting the use of these tools are displayed, making it easy to understand their functions. Comparing them with modern-day household items allows for a natural exploration of how lifestyles have changed over time.

The Jincheon Local Folk Museum is an indoor exhibition space where visitors can explore outdoor cultural heritage, local history, and folk materials all at once. It is a great addition to a historical tour of Jincheon, especially when visiting Gilsangsa or looking for indoor places to explore on rainy or hot summer days.
