Exploring the Hidden Gem of Duung Wetland in Taean

▲ A small boat next to the entrance of Duung Wetland
During my recent trip to Taean, after exploring the Shinduri Coastal Sand Dunes,
I drove for about 5 minutes to visit Duung Wetland.
Located approximately 1 km from the Shinduri Coastal Sand Dunes,
it was the perfect addition to my itinerary,
offering a tranquil escape and a hidden gem for healing.
Let me share my experience of this lovely place :)
▲ Duung Wetland Management Office
Although Duung Wetland seems to be lesser-known, it is designated as a Ramsar Wetland.
There is parking space, restrooms, and a well-managed nature spot.
For reference, Ramsar Wetlands are designated under the Ramsar Convention
to protect ecosystems, including areas with unique biogeographic characteristics or recognized
as important habitats for rare species and waterfowl.
▲ Taean ATV Experience Course
Interestingly, the road in front of Duung Wetland is also part of an ATV experience course.
▲ A model of the endangered golden frog at Duung Wetland
Duung Wetland is famous for the endangered golden frog.
At the entrance, there is a large frog sculpture and informative signs, making it a great spot for photos.
It’s also a significant ecological location, perfect for visiting with children.
▲ Entrance sign of Duung Wetland
This is the entrance to Duung Wetland.
▲ Deck walking trail around the wetland
The deck path around the wetland is easy to walk,
offering a light walking course of about 10 to 15 minutes :)
▲ A small boat in the wetland
There is a boat docked at the entrance, seemingly used for wetland management.
The bright blue boat adds a charming touch to the scenery.
▲ Serene wetland landscape
As you can see in the photos, the atmosphere here is truly quiet and peaceful.
The reflection of the forest on the calm water, the floating lily pads, and the walking path along the shore
all contribute to the natural beauty of the area.
Especially with almost no wind,
it feels completely different from the sand dunes :)
▲ A dirt path in the wetland
After the deck path, there are sections resembling rural fields.
It was a truly tranquil and peaceful countryside landscape.
▲ Pine tree shaded walking path
Towards the end of the path, there’s a brief section under pine trees.
Every corner of this small wetland offers a different ambiance.
▲ Antlion experience area sign
I also encountered an interesting spot!
There was a designated area to observe antlion larvae,
which are the larvae of the dragonfly.
The ground around had many circular depressions,
indicating something fascinating about the natural ecosystem.
▲ Landscape of Duung Wetland
In less than a 5-minute drive,
I was able to experience both the desert and wetland in this unique Taean travel course.
It’s a great place to visit with parents or children.
▲ Golden frog sculpture
I highly recommend Duung Wetland as a place to visit along with Shinduri Coastal Sand Dunes in Anmyeondo :)
