Upon arriving at the entrance of Yesan Bonsusan, I noticed the natural recreation forest and the stone monument.
A short walk along the path leads to the natural recreation forest, and parking near the stone monument allows access to both the arboretum and hiking trails.
The parking lot at Bonsusan Arboretum is available only during sunrise and sunset, and camping or car camping is prohibited.
From the parking lot, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Yesan Lake, but be aware that vehicles left for more than a day will be considered abandoned and may be towed.
There is also a map of the hiking trails at the parking lot, offering various routes, including easy forest paths for a pleasant walk.
The hiking route from the arboretum to the summit of Bonsusan takes about 2 to 3 hours round trip.
To reach Bonsusan Arboretum from the parking lot, cross the red cloud bridge, which operates from 9 AM to 6 PM during the summer.
As a public space, visitors must stick to designated walking paths, and pets and cooking activities are not allowed.
Smoking and drinking are strictly prohibited, and activities such as inline skating, biking, and using scooters are not permitted.
To reach the sky deck, you need to walk along the path, which is filled with various attractions like the exhibition greenhouse and insect ecology hall.
Although there is a slight incline, the abundant shade from trees makes it easy to enjoy a leisurely walk.
After a short climb, you'll find a small resting area with a pavilion, perfect for taking a break and enjoying the view.
While walking, I spotted the exhibition greenhouse and decided to take a quick look. There was a photo zone in front of the building, offering a stunning view of Yesan Lake.
The exhibition greenhouse allows visitors to observe various plants regardless of the weather or season, focusing on subtropical and aquatic plants that are hard to find outdoors.
Although small, the space features themed plant displays, giving visitors the feeling of stepping into a mini botanical garden.
The exhibition greenhouse also has a small pond with fish, providing a delightful viewing experience.
Directly above the exhibition greenhouse is the Bonsusan Insect Ecology Hall, where you can also catch a glimpse of the sky deck.
At the information desk, there are coloring sheets for insects, allowing visitors to color butterflies and display them on a media screen on the second floor.
The insect coloring sheets are available for one child per sheet, but the separation of the coloring area and experience area may be slightly inconvenient.
The first floor of the insect ecology hall is an interactive space where visitors can observe live insects and learn about them.
Among the various insects, the stag beetles and rhinoceros beetles were particularly fascinating and entertaining, as they were alive and visible while eating or moving around.
This space sparks curiosity even in children who are usually afraid of insects, making it a recommended spot for family visitors.
The exhibition experiences at Bonsusan Arboretum and the insect ecology hall operate from 9 AM to 6 PM during the summer, while the sky deck is open until 5:30 PM.
Please note that hours may vary depending on weather conditions, so plan your visit accordingly.
Taking the elevator to the second floor, you will find the media screen where you can experience the insect coloring activity.
By coloring a butterfly and scanning it, you can see your creation displayed on the screen, making it a fun experience for those visiting with children.
On the second floor, in addition to the media screen, there is also an indoor playground where children can play and run around.
Exiting the second floor of the insect ecology hall leads directly to the sky deck path, which connects to outdoor walking trails, allowing access without going through the insect hall.
The sky deck of Bonsusan extends above the forest, providing a feeling of walking among the trees at a considerable height.
With photo zones scattered throughout, it’s a great place to take pictures, and true to its name, the sky deck offers expansive views of the surrounding mountains and Yesan Lake.
