Experience Winter Fun at Gongju's Year-Round Sledding Center

As winter deepens, various experiential spaces that allow residents and visitors to enjoy the season are starting to open across the region. In Gongju, the Gongju Year-Round Sledding Center has begun operations, becoming a key winter attraction for citizens and tourists.
This facility offers an opportunity to enjoy winter leisure activities without traveling far, attracting families every winter. On January 3rd, I visited the center to check its operational status and usage information, and I'm excited to share my firsthand experience.
The Gongju Year-Round Sledding Center operates differently according to the season. In summer, it functions as a water playground, while in winter, it transforms into a sledding venue, providing various seasonal activities. During the winter season, sledding experiences take center stage. The short travel distance makes it convenient for families with children, allowing for a fulfilling half-day visit.
Operational Information:
□ Operating Period: January 3, 2026, to February 28, 2026
□ Operating Hours: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
□ Location: Gongju Geumhak Eco-Park
□ Admission Fees:
- Under 16 years old (50% discount): 6,000 KRW (3,000 KRW)
- 16 years and older (50% discount): 10,000 KRW (5,000 KRW)
The center operates in hourly sessions, with activities beginning at the top of each hour for approximately 50 minutes, followed by a 10-minute break for safety checks and facility maintenance. During busy times, the waiting line may close early for safety reasons, so it's advisable to arrive a bit earlier to secure your spot.
Admission fees vary by age. Children under 15 pay 6,000 KRW, while those 16 and older pay 10,000 KRW. Residents of Gongju or registered citizens can enjoy a 50% discount, making it an affordable option for families. However, registering on-site can lead to longer waiting times, so it's best to prepare in advance.
For safety, there are some restrictions: children under 7, those shorter than 120 cm, seniors over 65, and individuals weighing over 90 kg are not allowed to use the facility. Pregnant women and intoxicated individuals are also restricted for safety reasons. If visiting with children, it's wise to double-check height and age requirements before heading out.
The Gongju Year-Round Sledding Center features a spacious free parking area, making it easy for visitors to access without parking concerns. Even on weekends and during school holidays, parking is relatively ample, reducing stress for families traveling by car.
After parking, visitors proceed to the ticket booth located at the top of the sledding area. The route is straightforward, even for first-time visitors. After purchasing tickets, guests wear admission bracelets before entering.
The center is designed so that users do not need to carry sledding tubes themselves; they are transported via a separate mechanism. The descent is quick and exhilarating, while the ascent is steeper than expected, providing a good workout. Adjusting the number of rides based on everyone's condition is recommended.
At the top, safety personnel guide users to sit in the tubes for a smooth descent without any manual operation. The height at the starting point can be a bit daunting, but it adds to the excitement. The rush of speed and the cold wind on your face make for a thrilling experience, offering a refreshing break from the winter chill.
The slope is divided into five lanes, allowing for relatively quick turnover even during peak times. The tubes spin slightly during the descent, adding to the fun without being too fast, making it suitable for elementary school children and their guardians to enjoy together.
Located at the top of the Gongju Geumhak Eco-Park, there is also a children's playground, providing a space for kids to play before or after sledding. This area helps break up the day and prevent fatigue from continuous sledding.
Additionally, there are rest areas near the sledding center, where visitors can warm up during cold weather. There are also dining spaces in tent forms, allowing guests to enjoy food while sheltered from the wind. Simple snacks like cup noodles and winter treats are available for purchase, making it convenient to grab a bite after sledding.
The Gongju Year-Round Sledding Center, managed and operated by the city, is designed for easy access and affordability, making it a great place for families to enjoy seasonal fun without the hassle of complicated travel. It is highly recommended for those looking for a winter outing with family.
