Discovering Waemok Village Beach: A Summer Paradise

The beauty of summer is undoubtedly attributed to the sea. Just gazing at the cool sound of the waves and the endless horizon makes the fatigue of daily life disappear. Every summer, I find myself drawn to the beach of Dangjin, specifically to Waemok Village Beach, a representative marine tourist destination of the area.
Waemok Village is famously known for being one of the rare places on the west coast where one can enjoy both sunrise and sunset from the same spot.
Let me introduce you to the refreshing coastal scenery of Waemok Village Beach.
Last weekend, when I visited Waemok Village, the blue sky and calm sea were particularly beautiful. The incoming waves sparkled under the sunlight, and the sea breeze provided a delightful respite from the summer heat. I noticed many families enjoying their weekend outings, a clear sign that summer was on its way.
On a weekend afternoon at Waemok Village Beach, the beautiful blend of the blue sky and gentle waves was captivating. Previously, I had only visited during high tide, thinking the beach consisted solely of fine sandy shores. However, during low tide, I observed people catching small crabs and shellfish in the exposed mudflats.
Despite it still being early summer, there were surprisingly many tourists enjoying mudflat experiences at Waemok Village. I decided I would return during the children's vacation to enjoy mudflat activities and swimming.
The cost for the mudflat experience is 7,000 won for adults and middle school students, while it is free for children under elementary school age. Tickets can be purchased directly from staff on-site, so it's a good idea to prepare in advance and create precious memories with your children.
The sandy beach was bustling with vacationers. Many were setting up small tents or bringing personal umbrellas to enjoy the romance of the summer sea.
Although the sun was hot, the cool breeze from the high pressure system originating from Russia made for a pleasant afternoon. When I ventured slightly left from the beach's center, I spotted a stone marker that read, "The sunrise and sunset of Waemok Village."
I thought it would be fun to come back for sunrise photography, positioning the sun in the stone's hole.
As I descended to the left of this stone marker, I discovered a beach with a different vibe from the sandy shore. People were gathering near the coastal cliffs to escape the heat.
This area is private property, and while there is a popular sea cave trending on social media, it is advisable to avoid entering due to the risk of falling rocks.
At Waemok Village Beach and the nearby pier, seagulls were incessantly flying in to grab fish caught by local fishermen.
The natural scenery is truly beautiful and refreshing to behold. Spending a delightful day at Waemok Village Beach felt like being on a trip to Southeast Asia, even though it’s on the west coast of Korea. As the weather continues to warm up, I hope everyone enjoys swimming and captures beautiful photos against the stunning sea.
