Discovering the Yeohae Naru at Asan's Ginkgo Tree Path

Yeohae Naru has opened along the Ginkgo Tree Path in Asan's Gokgyeocheon.
Yeohae Naru is a cultural space that highlights 'human Yi Sun-sin' before he became a hero, allowing travelers to rest and experience the 'truth of Yi Sun-sin's heart.'
New experiences are always intriguing, and I explored the newly established emotional cultural space dedicated to Yi Sun-sin along the Ginkgo Tree Path.
The exterior walls of Yeohae Naru feature a media wall.
Various videos are played here at different times, and although my photos didn’t capture the visuals perfectly, the quality is quite good.
Works such as naval power art, Yi Sun-sin media art, citizen participation content, and award-winning pieces from a media art contest are screened in rotation.
On weekends, performance videos from the Arts Center are also shown, and the programs and schedules can be checked on the Yeohae Naru website or Instagram.
Although there are no separate chairs in the square, Yeohae Naru provides seating for those who wish to watch during the screening times.
After use, the chairs should be returned to Yeohae Naru.
I first visited the Media Art Hall on the first floor.
In the permanent exhibition hall, you can find records and memorials that reflect the roots and spirit of Yi Sun-sin, who grew up in Asan.
While reading and viewing is enjoyable, listening to the explanations from the resident tour guide at Yeohae Naru enhances the experience.
Asan has been a military stronghold since over 2000 years ago; Yi Sun-sin moved here around the age of twelve, and it was here that he met his wife.
His father-in-law guided him toward the military examination path, where he practiced horseback riding, archery, and various martial arts along the Banga Mountain ridge and Gokgyeocheon.
His official career began as a military officer, but he faced backlash and dismissal for rejecting corrupt requests from superiors.
After returning to Asan to recharge, he faced the loss of his father shortly after resuming his position and observed a three-year mourning period in Asan.
Later, as the highest naval commander, Yi Sun-sin endured unjust imprisonment, and during his campaign, he lost his mother.
Yi Sun-sin grew up and recharged in Asan, where he bid farewell to his parents.
He led the Imjin War to victory and now rests eternally here.
Yeohae Naru exhibits various artifacts related to Yi Sun-sin's story.
The special exhibition hall features comics related to Yi Sun-sin, including "The Sound of the Drum," serialized by renowned modern Korean cartoonist Seo Jeong-cheol in the Boy Chosun Ilbo.
He expresses a desire to portray the internal struggles hidden behind the great hero's path if he were to draw Yi Sun-sin again.
The story of Yi Sun-sin has appeared not only in Korea but also in American newspapers.
Through media art, the human side of Yi Sun-sin is vividly captured in the central stele and a 270-degree digital folding screen.
You can also see media art featuring Asan's landmarks alongside videos that tell Yi Sun-sin's story.
The audiovisual room offers vivid visuals and sound to experience Yi Sun-sin's narrative.
Chairs and headphones are provided for comfortable viewing.
The third floor, known as the Heritage Hall, features an archive with historical materials about Asan and Yi Sun-sin, along with interactive spaces and the Chungyo Hall.
SPACE 1545 serves as both a meeting space and an experiential venue.
Currently, there is an experience where visitors can explore Asan's attractions through a 3D virtual travel kit, available for free to everyone.
Chungyo Hall hosts small lectures and is a place to appreciate books related to Yi Sun-sin.
There is a comfortable space to read in front of a large monitor, and books and comics about Yi Sun-sin are available.
Additionally, there are various books related to culture, humanities, history, and world history for free browsing.
The gift shop in the tourism information center on the second floor features various tourist products from Asan and characters like Chungon, Hyoeong, and Aeong.
I explored the story behind the character Chungon, who resembles General Yi Sun-sin.
Chungon, an ordinary boy from Asan, was moved by the story of 'human Yi Sun-sin,' who loved his family and overcame failures.
He now dreams of growing up to be a person with a righteous heart and warm attitude, just like Yi Sun-sin.
The goods shop displays various products featuring Chungon, including pens, pouches, magnets, keychains, and stickers, all available for purchase.
Magnets featuring Asan's attractions and T-shirts depicting Yi Sun-sin's cartoon character are among the special souvenirs.
On Saturday, June 6, a History and Memory Art Festival will be held along the Ginkgo Tree Path, making it a great opportunity to enjoy the festival.
The Yi Sun-sin Tourism Experience Center, Yeohae Naru, located along the Ginkgo Tree Path in Asan, is small but rich in content.
It was a pleasant stop to take a break while walking along the path, providing meaningful insights into the human side of Yi Sun-sin, in addition to his great achievements.
