If you're looking to escape the mundane and enjoy breathtaking views, I highly recommend a trip to the southern tip of Haenam, Jeollanam-do. Nestled miraculously at the edge of a cliff surrounded by bizarre rock formations, the small temple offers an overwhelming visual shock along with a sense of spiritual energy.

Recognized by the Korea Tourism Organization as a must-visit destination, this site provides a panoramic view of the beautiful archipelago created by the numerous islands along the southern coast. Throughout the four seasons, it attracts photography enthusiasts and couples, serving as a cherished location for memorable snapshots.

Dalsolam Temple, majestically standing at the summit of Dalmasan, charges no entrance fee and is open year-round. This makes it an ideal spot for family outings or light dates without any financial burden.

Traditionally believed to be founded by the monk Uisang during the late Silla period, this temple has endured a painful history, including destruction during the Imjin War. Although it was left abandoned for a long time, it has now perfectly restored its tranquil charm, making it the only remaining hermitage of Dalmasan with significant historical value.

The current beautiful temple owes its revival to the heartfelt efforts of a monk. In 2002, Monk Beopjo decided to rebuild the temple based on a dream, transporting 1,800 earthen tiles along a mountain path inaccessible by vehicle, and completed the reconstruction in just 32 days.

Built on a flat area carved from rugged cliffs and surrounded by sharp rocks, the temple resembles a fortress floating among the clouds. Just 50 meters down from the main hall lies the mysterious spring 'Yongdam', which never runs dry, quenching the thirst of weary visitors.

While the journey to this stunning locale is rewarding, it requires caution. The narrow access road to the parking area near the summit can be challenging, especially for novice drivers. After parking, visitors must walk approximately 800 meters along steep rocky paths to reach the temple.

Given the terrain's steepness and rocky conditions, wearing sturdy sneakers or hiking boots is essential to avoid injury. For elderly visitors or those with strollers and wheelchairs, it may be more practical to focus on the lower viewing platforms.

For the best photo opportunities, visiting in the early morning is highly recommended. The mist that blankets the mountains and the soft sunlight filtering through the valleys create a magical atmosphere reminiscent of a scene from a movie.

After visiting Dalsolam, consider exploring nearby Mihwangsa Temple or the famous 'Dalma-godo' trekking course to complete your day trip. This weekend, create unforgettable memories at this hidden gem in Haenam, a natural masterpiece that offers peace of mind.
