Discovering the New Attractions of Gangneung by 2026

Gangneung, famous for its blue sea and coffee aroma, is set to transform into an even more attractive destination by 2026. This isn't just about enjoying the ocean; a new attraction will allow visitors to experience the grandeur of nature from the sky.
The city of Gangneung is undergoing major renovations around Jukdobong near Anmok Beach, aiming to encourage visitors to stay longer and enjoy a deep sense of relaxation. With a budget exceeding 7.5 billion won, this project is being recognized as a 'stay-type hub' that will bring a fresh breeze to tourism along the East Coast.
The centerpiece of the project is a massive observation facility that rises 30 meters above ground. It will feature a skywalk that stretches 108 meters, offering a thrilling experience akin to walking above the clouds. Construction is set to begin in March 2026, with completion targeted for November of the same year.
Standing at the end of this structure, you will be treated to a panoramic view of the vast East Sea, the lively Gangneung Port, and the lush forest of Jukdobong. The sight of Anmok Beach's white sands from this height will provide an entirely different emotional experience.
The unique location of the Jukdobong Sky Valley is where the Namdaecheon River meets the East Sea. This area, where the waters of Namdaecheon—often referred to as the lifeblood of Gangneung—mix with the waves of the East Sea, presents a rare landscape not easily found elsewhere in Korea.
The stunning scenery created by the merging of these two distinct waterways will leave a strong impression on travelers. The opportunity to witness this natural wonder from the highest vantage point adds to the unique charm of the location.
As night falls, the joy of travel continues. Beautiful lighting designed for nighttime operation will make Gangneung's night sea even more romantic. Visitors can enjoy the refreshing sea during the day and the softly illuminated coastline at night, experiencing different charms throughout the day.
Particularly, this area is close to the renowned Anmok Coffee Street, making it an ideal spot for travel planning. After enjoying a cup of coffee, a leisurely stroll or a drive to enjoy the skywalk will be a great choice for couples and family trips alike.
For practical visit tips, parking can get crowded on weekends, so it's advisable to visit early in the morning. Once the Sky Valley is completed, an increase in visitors is expected, so it's wise to check for available parking spaces in the Namhangjin area in advance. This newly developed space at 11-1 Gyunso-dong, Gangneung, Gangwon-do, is anticipated to become a new paradigm for Gangneung travel beyond just an observation deck. Be among the first to experience the transformed Gangneung in the second half of 2026.
