As the sweltering heat of summer arrives, many people immediately think of refreshing valleys and shady spots. Even in the scorching summer temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, there are places that emanate cool air from between the rocks, attracting travelers.
This location offers an open natural environment and historical relics, making it a popular summer retreat for families and couples seeking new landscapes throughout the seasons.
Maintaining a chilly 0.3 degrees in the summer, this natural monument provides a unique cooling experience.
Uiseong Binggye Valley, located in Chunsan-myeon, Uiseong-gun, is known for its mysterious temperature difference that operates contrary to the outside weather. Thanks to the air circulation and heat exchange within the terrain, the internal temperature of the ice cave remains around 0.3 degrees Celsius, never exceeding 5 degrees.
Notably, the phenomenon of ice persisting from early March to early October is a remarkable record in the country. Recognized for its rare natural value, it has been designated as Natural Monument No. 527 under the name 'Uiseong Binggye Ice Valley' and is systematically protected.
Visitors are delighted to find that there are no entrance fees or parking costs. As a municipal park managed directly by the local government, it is always open and is recognized as a cost-effective getaway.
A spacious parking area of 2,000 square meters can accommodate up to 210 vehicles, making it convenient for visitors even during weekends or holidays.
Beyond being a simple natural attraction, this area is rich in historical value. The treasure 'Bingsan Temple Five-Story Stone Pagoda', established during the late Unified Silla to early Goryeo period, stands tall, enhancing the serene atmosphere of the temple site.
Along with the restored Binggye Seowon, the 'Eight Scenic Views of Binggye' features eight breathtaking sights, making it easy to stroll and appreciate both the relics and the scenery.
For a fulfilling experience, consider linking your visit with the nearby 'Binggye Ice Valley Camping Ground'. Spanning 24,000 square meters, it offers 18 caravans and 43 camping sites, making it ideal for a one-night, two-day getaway.
A recommended itinerary is to view the ice caves and hot springs in the early morning, take a walk around the valley, and enjoy relaxation at the campsite in the afternoon. However, always be cautious of safety while swimming in the valley during summer and watch out for falling rocks in rocky areas.
