Discovering Keunmaeul Gulbap Restaurant: A Culinary Gem in Seosan
After visiting Seosan Birdland, we headed to a famous restaurant in Chungcheongnam-do.
Today, I'm excited to introduce a must-try restaurant located just 5 minutes from Seosan Birdland and a minute away from Ganwoldo.
As you enjoy a drive through the refreshing breeze of the blue and vast Seosan sea, you will encounter a charming sign that stands out.
This is the 'Keunmaeul Gulbap Restaurant', a model restaurant officially recognized by Chungcheongnam-do and Seosan City, known for preserving its delicious flavors through generations.
The restaurant is also a 'Baeknyeon Gage' (century-old store) recognized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, displaying the 'Chungnam Ie (家)' sign, a mark of excellence designated by Seosan City.
As soon as you step inside, the clean and pleasant hygiene standards and the friendly service from the staff instantly create a positive atmosphere.
Our family has visited this restaurant twice now, and one of the reasons we keep coming back is its fantastic geographical accessibility.
Located just a 5-minute drive from Seosan Birdland, which is famous for being a great place for families, and only 1 minute from Ganwoldo, known for its beautiful sunsets, it perfectly fits our itinerary before or after sightseeing.
Be prepared for a wait if you visit during lunch on weekends.
Once inside, the table fills up with neatly arranged side dishes that capture the fresh flavors of the local sea.
The soft and sweet potato salad melts in your mouth, while the crunchy and well-fermented young radish kimchi is so delicious that you won't be able to put down your chopsticks before the main course arrives.
This time, we ordered one serving of gulbap and one serving of clam gulbap, each priced at 17,000 won. While it might seem a bit pricey, the generous portions of clams and the included oyster pancake make it worthwhile.
To our surprise, a large oyster pancake appeared on our table as a complimentary service with our gulbap order, showcasing the restaurant's incredible value.
When we visited as a family of three, the two types of gulbap paired with the service pancake were just the right amount, leaving us satisfied.
We recommend enjoying the complimentary oyster pancake first and only ordering more if needed.
Additionally, they serve seasoned raw oysters as a side dish!
As you dip the crispy and golden-brown oyster pancake in soy sauce, the main stars of the day, the gulbap and clam gulbap, arrive steaming hot.
Opening the pot reveals fresh, plump oysters and chewy clams piled on top of the rice, instantly making you feel healthy just by looking at it.
The home-cooked vibe is palpable, making it a true hidden gem.
Adding a generous spoonful of their special wild chive soy sauce elevates the dish, releasing a refreshing aroma that enhances the ocean flavors.
While mixing the rice, the comforting smell of the soybean paste stew also arrives, and this stew is truly exceptional.
The rich and deep broth perfectly complements the gulbap, making it irresistible and easy to finish a bowl in no time.
Wrapping it in seaweed makes it even more delicious! Last time, I only had the oyster gulbap, but the clam gulbap was equally satisfying!
While the oysters are delicious now, they are even bigger in winter.
Finally, enjoying the crispy rice at the bottom of the stone pot makes for a perfect ending.
