As the early summer heat begins in June, if you're seeking a unique landscape instead of the usual beach vacation, the East Coast of Gangwon Province is the perfect choice. The once barren limestone quarry that has been mined for 40 years has transformed into the stunning cultural space 'Murungbyeoryucheonji', featuring dazzling lakes and flower gardens.

This place is more than just a park; it offers a theme park-like experience where you can enjoy both relaxation and thrills amidst nature. In June, the area is adorned with the most beautiful purple carpet of lavender, attracting families and couples looking for weekend getaways.

The biggest reason to visit Murungbyeoryucheonji in June is the vast outdoor garden filled with lavender. In the expansive garden located on the mountainside, thousands of purple lavender flowers bloom, giving visitors the illusion of being in a serene European countryside.

As the flowers bloom in their prime, a festival takes place, featuring various busking performances and experience booths, enhancing the visual feast. Due to the limited shade in the outdoor garden, it is advisable to visit early in the morning before the sun gets too hot to leisurely take photos.

Two magnificent emerald lakes, Cheongok Lake and Geumgok Lake, also evoke awe among visitors. Formed by dissolved limestone, the water displays a mystical emerald color not commonly found in rivers, providing a breathtaking view.

From the observation deck, you can enjoy an unreal panoramic view where steep cliffs, blue lakes, and lush mountains harmonize. With a basic entrance fee of 6,000 KRW for adults, you can comfortably explore this grand scenery aboard the Murungbyeol train, making it a great value.

In addition to serene nature viewing, there are dynamic attractions to blow off steam. Experience the thrill of the Sky Glider, ride the off-road luge along the quarry's dirt paths, or traverse the forest on the Alpine Coaster and roller coaster zip line.

Tickets for these attractions must be purchased separately from the entrance fee, and lines can get long on weekends, so it's wise to enjoy your desired activities right after entering. This is a favorite spot for couples who enjoy thrills and families with children aged elementary school and up.

After exploring the area, indulge in unique desserts at a gallery café remodeled from a former quarry building. The 'Cement Ice Cream' with a black sesame flavor, served with a small shovel-shaped spoon, is a special treat exclusive to this location and has gained significant attention on social media.
