Must-Visit Places in Goeasan County
Autumn is arriving in Goeasan, with the beautiful Sanggok Valley showcasing its fall foliage.
As mid-September approaches, the forests and fields are becoming more vibrant, leading us into October.
As autumn deepens, thoughts of leaf-peeping adventures emerge.
Goeasan, blessed with stunning nature, offers optimal locations for autumn outings such as Sanggok Valley, Huayang Valley, and Seonyu Valley, along with trekking routes like Chilbo Mountain and Gunja Mountain.
Depending on your time and stamina, you can choose different courses to enjoy.
Among these, Sanggok Valley stands out for its accessibility and breathtaking peaks.
Sanggok Valley is a natural landscape stretching 10.5 km from Sanggok Village in Chilseong-myeon to Jaesuri Pass.
Starting from Sanggok Intersection and leading to Jaesuri, this route is perfect for enjoying the valley and scenic ridges.
Key highlights include Horongso, Sogeumgang, Byeongam, Munsuam, Sangbyeok, Yongso, Sanggok Waterfall, Seonnyeotang, and Jangam.
Sanggok Valley connects nine scenic spots, each offering a unique experience, with Byeongam and Sanggok Waterfall serving as the starting points for hiking in Chilbo Mountain and Gunja Mountain.
During my visit, I explored two of the most accessible spots for autumn viewing: Sogeumgang and Sanggok Waterfall.
After driving 2.3 km from Sanggok Intersection, you will reach Sogeumgang, marked by a rest area and ample parking.
In summer, it's perfect for water activities, while in autumn, the foliage is stunning, and winter offers picturesque snow scenes.
Sogeumgang, resembling Geumgangsan, features clear waters and dramatic rock formations.
In autumn, the valley's water levels may be low, but the scenery remains captivating.
After enjoying the views at Sogeumgang, I continued on to Sanggok Waterfall.
As one of the Seven Wonders of Sanggok Valley, Sanggok Waterfall is an ideal spot for a brief trek during a drive.
On weekends, many tourist buses park at Sanggok Rest Area, as it marks the starting point for Chilbo Mountain hiking.
The round trip from Sanggok Rest Area to Sanggok Waterfall is about 1.5 km and takes around 30 minutes, featuring a gentle incline and a wheelchair-accessible deck path.
As you approach the waterfall, the autumn colors begin to emerge, with trees transitioning from vibrant green to shades of yellow and brown.
The path leads deeper into the forest, where the sounds of flowing water and rustling leaves create a peaceful atmosphere.
The trail to Sanggok Waterfall includes a deck path and a wide mountain trail suitable for two to three people walking side by side.
As you enter the valley, the trees become denser, and the autumn colors deepen.
The beauty of the scenery slows your pace, making you forget your destination.
By October, this area will be at its peak for autumn foliage.
The path splits between the waterfall and the mountain trail, where hikers may stop briefly at the waterfall before continuing to the summit.
The trail to Sanggok Waterfall offers a close-up experience of the valley.
The deck path provides a stunning view of the valley, where the sound of water is clear amidst the dense greenery and scattered autumn colors.
As autumn approaches, the valley transforms daily, promising beautiful sights ahead.
At the end of the path, the waterfall cascades down the rocks, creating a breathtaking view.
The experience of Sanggok Valley and Sanggok Waterfall is perfect for a light, enjoyable autumn outing.
Although the colors have just begun to change, the scenery is mesmerizing, and by October, it will be a spectacular sight.
