A City Where Humans and Animals Coexist: The Dangjin Animal Shelter

Dangjin City is becoming a leading city in pet culture by implementing groundbreaking policies to enhance the welfare and protection of stray animals, in response to the recent surge in pet ownership.
The Dangjin Animal Shelter is located at 180 Sampo-gil, Godeam-myeon, Dangjin City. The facility is housed in a newly built building that is clean and well-maintained.
Upon entering the office, visitors are required to sign a guestbook with personal information and the purpose of their visit.
The shelter is dedicated to rescuing stray dogs and caring for cats and puppies, assisting with the adoption process as well.
As I wrote in the guestbook and made my way to the area where the animals are cared for, I found puppies and kittens nursing from their mothers.
The staff kindly guided me through the pet care area, which was impressively clean. Dangjin City goes beyond merely rescuing stray animals; it provides a safe and hygienic environment for their protection.
Behind the shelter, there is a playground equipped with various facilities for the animals to play and exercise, ensuring their health and hygiene are well managed.
Through active adoption initiatives, Dangjin City strives to minimize euthanasia and respect the rights of animals.
The entrance to the shelter features a spacious parking area, and its location at the foot of a mountain offers a peaceful environment, ideal for caring for pets.
The walls of the facility display information about the stray dogs, including their age and gender, alongside their identification numbers.
Adopt, Don't Shop: Citizens who adopt stray animals receive financial support for spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping, amounting to up to 250,000 KRW. Post-adoption consultation services are also provided.
Mother cats are often seen sitting on my lap, showing their affectionate nature. If you are interested in adopting a dog or cat, please reach out to the Dangjin Animal Shelter.
Operating hours: 09:00 AM - 06:00 PM, closed every Saturday and Sunday.
For inquiries, please contact the shelter.
