2026 Dangjin Haduckje Lotus Festival: A Colorful Celebration

The 2026 Dangjin Haduckje Lotus Festival, now in its 9th year, took place over three days from July 3 to July 5. I visited on Saturday, July 4, and the area was bustling with tourists from all over the country, making the festival lively and vibrant.
There were parking lots available from Lot 1 to Lot 4 around the festival area, but by the time I arrived in the late afternoon, all the parking spaces were full due to the festival's popularity. As I was with a baby, I was worried about parking, but fortunately, I found a spot on a nearby street.
The 9th Dangjin Haduckje Lotus Festival was more than just a flower viewing event; it was a wonderful occasion that showcased the cultural heritage of Haduckje and modern interpretations of traditional lotus flower games.
Given the large number of visitors, I recommend arriving a bit earlier than the event start time for next year's festival.
Haduckje in Summer: Current Blooming Status and Scenery
Haduckje is a world irrigation heritage site that dates back to the Unified Silla period, and its historical value is matched by its stunning scenery. Upon entering the festival grounds, visitors are greeted by an endless wave of green lotus leaves.
As of July 4, about 60% of the lotus flowers were in bloom, with shy pink lotus and elegant white lotus showcasing their beauty. Many buds were still present, suggesting that beautiful blooms could be enjoyed well into mid-July.
The walking paths were well-maintained and flat, making it easy to stroll with a baby stroller. The heat was intense, but thankfully, there were cafes available for refreshments.
This is the Sharing Cafe booth run by the Haduck Red Cross Society, where proceeds go to support vulnerable groups in the Haduck area. I appreciated their friendly service.
A Variety of Family-Friendly Programs
As indicated in the pamphlet, there were plenty of sights and activities to enjoy during the day. The Children's Water Festival, featuring performances by DJ Lara and Sweety, was particularly popular with the kids.
At the experience booth in front of the Haduck Traditional Folk Museum, families could engage in activities like writing wishes on lotus flower papers, traditional games, and agricultural experiences.
The Astronomy Experience booth offered solar observation during the day and stargazing at night, providing educational opportunities for children.
As evening approached, around 7 PM, everyone's attention turned to the night sky and the lotus pond for the festival's main event. The 'Lotus Flower Fireworks' began, painting the dark sky with colorful bursts of light.
Following the fireworks, the traditional 'Nakhwa' game commenced, where charcoal powder wrapped in Hanji paper is lit and hung on strings, creating a beautiful display as the flames danced like flower petals on the water.
The reflections of the fireworks on the water and the gentle night breeze added a unique charm to the experience.
Nearby Attractions to Explore
If you're visiting the Dangjin Haduckje Lotus Festival, don't miss the nearby historical sites. The Haduck Cathedral, built in 1929, is a stunning Gothic-style church, especially beautiful at night. The Haduck Traditional Folk Museum offers insights into the history and agricultural culture of Haduckje, making it an educational spot for kids.
Solmoe Shrine and Sinri Shrine are serene places where you can reflect amidst the history of Korean Catholicism. The festival atmosphere, with music and cultural sharing, was delightful.
As the night can attract insects, it's advisable to bring mosquito repellent or light outerwear for children. Comfortable shoes and a stroller are essential for the long paths.
The food trucks offered a variety of options, including chicken skewers, takoyaki, yakisoba, churros, ice cream, and cotton candy.
The night of July 4, filled with beautiful lotus flowers and fantastic Nakhwa games, created precious memories that will be cherished alongside the deep history of Dangjin Haduckje.
Although the festival has ended, the lotus flowers will continue to bloom throughout July. How about planning a family outing to Dangjin Haduckje this weekend?
