Exploring the Delights of Kim Mak Hwa

Hello~ :)
Recently, I've been craving the seasonal winter fish, yellowtail.
I visited a famous restaurant known for its yellowtail, and I'm excited to share my experience!
I love sashimi, and during winter, yellowtail is my absolute favorite!
In the Hongdae area of Mapo, I tried the takeout from a popular place called 'Bada Hoesa Rang'.
Today, I want to introduce you to 'Kim Mak Hwa', which is famous for its sashimi platter.
Located near Exit 3 of Mapo Station, Kim Mak Hwa operates from 5 PM to 5 AM (Monday to Saturday) and 4 PM to 2 AM (Sunday). They offer takeout, reservations, and accept Onnuri gift certificates, but parking is not available.
Upon visiting Kim Mak Hwa for their renowned winter pork yellowtail platter, I was greeted by a nostalgic atmosphere right at the entrance.
I made a reservation just in case, but luckily, at 6 PM on a Monday, there weren't many people, and I was seated immediately!
If you're planning to visit during busy days from Tuesday to Friday, I recommend making a reservation.
When I arrived, there were about three tables occupied, and a few more groups came in slowly after us.
There were also foreign guests, likely due to the nearby hotels.
The signature sashimi platter is the main highlight at Kim Mak Hwa.
Depending on your taste and the season, you can choose what to order.
The side dishes looked delicious, especially the fried oysters in winter!
Having had a few encounters with norovirus, I avoided raw oysters, but the fried ones caught my eye.
I didn't order alcohol this time since I'm not a big drinker, but I overheard some orders from the next table.
Unfortunately, Kim Mak Hwa does not serve Chamisul or Cass, so keep that in mind if you prefer those!
When I sneaked a peek at the drink fridge, I noticed Cheongha, Chamisul, and Terra.
There are also highballs and other alcoholic beverages on the menu, so you can check those out.
The interior is adorned with bulb lights resembling lanterns, creating a nostalgic vibe with traditional tables.
The music had a retro feel, and my husband loved it, saying it was his style.
During our visit, my husband and I ordered the 'Pork Yellowtail Sashimi Platter 小'.
The platter included yellowtail sashimi, perilla leaves, aged kimchi, seaweed salad, rice with seaweed, seasoned water parsley, fish cake, seaweed, dipping sauce, sesame oil, fried flounder, and hash browns, all beautifully arranged on a tray.
We enjoy eating, but since we weren't very hungry, we only ordered the platter.
It was just the right amount to feel satisfied!
The yellowtail was cut thickly, allowing us to enjoy its rich flavor.
The seasoned water parsley added an incredible kick!
I love trying various combinations of flavors, and I discovered a delightful pairing at Kim Mak Hwa.
To savor the pure taste of yellowtail, I dipped it in soy sauce or paired it with aged kimchi.
Additionally, I enjoyed the combination of perilla leaves with seasoned water parsley, seaweed salad, and rice.
It was truly amazing!
If you visit Kim Mak Hwa, I highly recommend trying this combination.
The yellowtail is delicious, but this particular wrap is a game changer!
The fried flounder was also well-seasoned and tasted like a delightful Japanese fish fry.
Before winter ends, make sure to enjoy yellowtail at Kim Mak Hwa!
Wishing you a happy winter!
