Reservations & Waiting

While watching the second season of Black and White Chef, I remembered some restaurants from the first season that I hadn’t visited.

I finally visited Tien Mimi in Hongdae, which I had tried to go to before but failed.

The restaurant is located on the 4th floor of the Mercure Ambassador Hotel at 144 Yanghwa Road, Mapo-gu, Seoul.

They open daily from 11 AM to 10 PM, with a break from 3 PM to 5 PM.

They offer 1.5 hours of parking support.

Reservations are available, but I decided to try walk-in.

I arrived right at opening time on a weekday and found myself 8th in line.

Fortunately, I was able to wait in the hotel and after about 30 minutes, I was able to enter.

For reference, walk-in for lunch is available from 10 AM and for dessert from 2 PM.

It’s a good idea to explore Hongdae while waiting.

You can only enter once your whole party has arrived.

Chef Jeong Ji-sun’s Tien Mimi has locations in both Hongdae and Gangnam.

I chose the Hongdae location, which is just a 2-minute walk from the subway station.

Reservations can also be made through Catch Table, which opens at 10 AM on the 1st of every month.

If you want to avoid waiting like we did, making a reservation is a good option.

Even if you fail to secure a spot, setting an alarm can notify you if a table becomes available.

There are many who experience failure, but I still recommend giving it a try.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant feels upscale, likely due to its location in a hotel.

There are also rooms available, so if you make a reservation, you might be able to get a private room.

The menu primarily consists of courses, but I wanted to try various dim sums, so I ordered dim sum with tomato soup.

The steamed dumplings were a soy sauce-based dish that was great for whetting the appetite.

The dumpling skin was soft, making it easy to scoop with a spoon.

I also ordered xiaolongbao, which I first tried at Din Tai Fung and loved.

You can gently tear it to sip the broth, then dip it in soy sauce with ginger.

Just be careful not to burn your mouth!

I also tried the spicy dim sum, which was unique and not too overpowering, making it a nice addition to the meal.

The famous tomato soup noodle at Tien Mimi may look like it has a strong red flavor at first, but it’s actually a sweet and rich tomato soup.

However, it was a bit oily, leaving my lips greasy after eating!

Chef Jeong Ji-sun’s Tien Mimi in Hongdae is easily accessible and has a clean atmosphere.

I plan to return to try the full course meal and the famous 'sticky rice ball' next time!
