Promenade Design Institute Exhibition at DDP: Exploring the Intersection of Design, Art, and Technology

The Seoul Design Foundation is hosting various collaborative exhibitions at DDP, aiming to establish it as a platform for communication and networking among design professionals, while also providing diverse cultural experiences for citizens.
The Promenade Design Institute, initially founded as the 'Design Policy Research Institute' within the 'Korean Society of Design Science' in 2007, changed its name to the 'Promenade Design Institute' in 2009. For the past 18 years, it has been a design research institution sharing interests in the social themes of design.
Over the years, the Institute has consistently worked to build an infrastructure spanning various design fields – visual, communication, product, automotive, industrial, architectural, urban, public, service, fashion, textile, beauty, and more – as well as engineers, artists, and professionals in social, cultural, academic, and technological fields. This fosters the sharing of expertise and maximizes synergy.
The Institute actively promotes the exchange of diverse expertise through monthly meetings and 'mini-seminars.' It also explores contemporary themes through 'writing activities,' publishing one book per year, compiling experiences from various fields. Furthermore, it plans 'exhibitions' to showcase these findings externally, maintaining communication with the public about Promenade's perspective on the times.
The '7th Promenade Design Exhibition' is a significant event showcasing the research achievements of the institute and will be held at DDP, three years after the '5th Promenade Design Exhibition' took place during the <Seoul Design 2022 Festival>. The exhibition consists of 16 sections: <Promenade Design Archive - Introduction Video of Promenade Design Institute>, <Promenade Researchers Exhibition - 14 Person Exhibition>, and <Promenade Book Exhibition - Promenade Design Series Volumes 1-10>.
The participating artists in the <Promenade Researchers Exhibition - 14 Person Exhibition> are Gil Jin-hee (Visual Artist), Kim Kyung-hwan (Art Coordinator), Kim Min-jung (Ceramic Artist), Kim San (Artist), Kim Yu-sun (Public Designer), Moon Sun-hee (Visual Artist), Park Ji-hyun (Ceramic Artist), Son Dae-yoon (Creative Director), Won Jae-yoon (Visual Artist), Lee Kwang-hoo (Product Designer), Jang Kye-yeon (Design Creator), Jang Yong-hae (Spatial Planner), Kazebak (Digital Artist), and Hyun Kyung-ah (Landscape Architect). Their respective exhibits showcase the results of vivid experiences of living in 2025, presented by experts in various fields.
The <Promenade Book Exhibition> features books published by the Promenade Design Institute, which have been selected multiple times for the 'Sejong Book' award for excellent academic publications. It will showcase all volumes from 1 to 10, including this year's new publication, Promenade Design 10 'NEXT: Designing Survival,' aiming to communicate with the audience through vivid stories experienced and observed by practitioners in the fields of design, engineering, and art.
This exhibition aims to foster Promenade's inclusiveness and development, dreaming of a promenade where we feel a human pace while walking together, with diverse perspectives and attempts where 'design and art' meet, and 'engineering and art' meet. The Promenade Design Institute will continue to strive to facilitate communication in our society through design promenades, remembering that presenting social visions through design and art is a sense of historical mission. Thank you.
Park Ji-hyun, Director of Promenade Design Institute
