The Seoul Craft Museum will host a special lecture on 'European Lacquer Art' on February 2.
This lecture will shed light on the history and transformation of European lacquer art influenced by Asian lacquer culture.
The speaker, Dr. Jeong Soon-sim, has lived in Germany for 37 years and has organized numerous exhibitions on Asian and European lacquer art.
What topics will be covered in the lecture?
Focusing on the collection of the Westphalian State Museum of Art and Cultural History, which holds the largest lacquer collection in Germany,
the lecture will discuss the process of curating European lacquer exhibitions, field experiences, and introduce representative artifacts and artists' works.
How has lacquer art developed in Europe?
Chinoiserie and Japonisme
These are Asian-influenced art styles that were popular in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries, each reflecting the influence of Chinese and Japanese cultures.
How can you apply to participate?
Registration opens on January 28, 2026, at 9 AM through the Seoul Craft Museum website, with a limit of 80 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
Due to high interest from citizens, the pre-registration quickly filled up.

On the day of the lecture, February 2, registration for remaining seats will begin at 13:50.
